Better late than never...

Apr 17, 2007

On November 1st of 2006 I had Gastric Bypass Surgery.  People ask me how I came to this point that I would do something like this but I have to say that  my weight loss journey started the day that I was born.  Was always
heavy all of my life.  It was when I hit menopause that my body really
took over.  I could not get the weight off.  Nothing that I tried.
Adkins, Diabetic diets nothing.   I was in pain every day of my life
the past 2 years I would say.   My back, my joints to name a few.  It
was difficult for me to even get out of a recliner chair at home!   I
knew that I had to make a change or I wouldn't be walking in a couple
of years at the rate that I was going and being a nurse it's a
requirement to be able to walk!  LOL    It was at that point that I
really considered gastric bypass.    I had talked to other people over
the course of the years including yourself about this surgery and had
always kept it in the back of my mind so to speak but I knew that I
really had to persue looking into this surgery or I wouldn't be around
in a few years and if I was....I wouldn't be walking!
The facility that I work at in the states carried Blue Care Network as
the insurance.   I looked into what they required to get this surgery
paid for and it was a LONG list.    Alot of documentation from
doctors, weight loss centers etc.   Then I made a call to Barix and
they told me that OHIP would pay for my surgery.   OHIP is Ontario
Health Insurance Program and when i immigrated to Canada to marry my
husband it was one of the benefits that I got.    I started looking
into what OHIP would require and to make a long story short....I found
a doctor (a huge feat over here...not enough of them!!) and went
through the testing required and was approved in September of last
year for the surgery.    I had the surgery on November 1st of 2006 and
have really never looked back.
