August 2, 2007 - Hello, I just turned 46 years old and recently became a grandpa. I currently weigh 340 pounds and have been working for the last three years towards having bariatric bypass surgery. I have spent my entire life trying different diets from Weight Watchers to Slim Fast to Atkins to starvation. I started out being successful but then I would start cheating and would end up gaining back all the weight I had lost plus even more.
Three years ago, after researching bariatric bypass surgery, I approached the organization I work for to get approval for the surgery. They are self-insured and all claims are handled by Chesterfield Resources, so the organization decides if someone will be covered for this typ of surgery. I met with a psychologist, arranged by the organization, for an evaluation and was not approved for the surgery due to some findings in the evaluation. The biggest problem is that I was an emotional eater. I began a 15-month program call "Freedom To Eat" which involved a diet supervised by a dietician, counseling, and meeting with a mentor once a week. Over the next 15 months, I was able to loose about 40 lbs and have been able to maintain that weight loss to date. I also resolved the issues that were of concern to the psychologist and have now been approved for the surgery.
I am now awaiting a call from the surgeon's office in order to schedule my "date" and am getting more and more excited about the future as the days go by.
August 9, 2007 - I got the call today from the surgeon's office and I am scheduled for Laproscopic Roux-n-Y bypass on Thursday, September 6, 2007. I am so excited about having the surgery scheduled and I can't wait for September 6th to arrive. I will be going in on August 22nd for my pre-op testing and my pre-op education class is scheduled for Thursday, August 23rd.
