TO GOD BE THE GLORY

Nov 11, 2006

I was always very small and could manage my weight until I became a christian.  When I joined the chruch I stopped smoking, drinking etc...
and it seemed that every week their was something to celebrate and the celebration alway included food.  So I exchanged one habit for anohter and after many years I gained 130 pounds.

I was at my highest weight at age 50 weighing 252 pounds and in spite of my weight I was a very health person.  I did not have high blood pressure high colesteral or diabetic but I had sleep apnea and sleeping with a cpap machine every night.  I had problems with my feet (Bone Spurs) and felt very unattractive.

I have always seen myself as being little in size and when I would go shopping I  look at clothes that I knew was to small.  I love going to Victorias Secret and looking at the nighties and panties and said to myself one day I will shop in this store for something other than perfumes, candles and lip gloss. Just to let you know I went last week and purchased my first pair of  panties and bra from that store.  My friends said that I was not big enough to have the Lap Band surgery but I assured them that I was at least 100lbs over weight even though I carried it well.

After I was sure that I wanted to have the surgery I ran it by a few friends to get their advice.  Almost all of them said go for it.  There were a few that said that I should wait and try some other type of weight loss program before getting the Lap Band.  I assured them that I had tryed several other program with little or know success.

I had went on line to find out about the Lap Band surgery and was able to watch the complete purcedure on line.  I talked to a friend of a friend that had the surgery and was down 80 pounds.  She met with me and I was able to ask her many questions.  She was very very insturmental in me making my decision to have the surgery.  Then I found  the Obesityhelp site and followed 2 people from the time they were approved for their surgery until 6 months post op.  I stayed on the Lap Band message board asking questions looking at before and after pictures etc....

On May 10th I desided that the Lap Band was for me and that for my 50th birthday I would do something that would change my life forever.  I made an appointment at the clinic to talk to one of the Doctors.  Upon arriving I was given a packet that explained the surgery and information that had to be completed before the insurance company would approve the surgery.  I then went  talk to the doctor who again explained both surgerys to me and answered my questions.  He told me that I was a candidate for the Lap Band surgery and that he wanted me to lose 5 lbs before surgery.

Later that month I attended a siminar with another doctor at the clinic who explained the the surgery to me and 30 others and also allowed us to ask questions.  At the clinic I attended there are several staff memebers who have had the Gastric Bypass or Lap Band surgery and they were able to answer questions from experience.  After getting all nessasary papers completed I was approved for the Lap Band surgery.

On June 21st I  had my surgery and everything was successful.  I live 3 miles for the clinic  so I did'nt have to prepare to get there on time like some people that live far away or  out of states.  Everyone at the clinic was so nice and informative. I was in surgery  about 35 min and when I awake I was in my room and my husband was at the foot of the bed.  I was a little light headed and a little sore which is to be expected.  The nurse came in to check my vital signs every 15 min and within a couple of hours they got me up and walking and I came home the next day.

My daughter came to stay with me and was a lot of help as I was very sore and had a hard time getting up and  down in and out of the bed.
A friend brought me a step up stool to help get in and out of bed.
After about three days of soreness and taking pain medication  I told my daughter that she could go home  I was able to manage by myself.  I followed all the doctores orders and in two weeks i had loss 9  and boy was I excited.  The next 2 week I was on Puree foods and I was able to eat more and tastier  food.  When I went back for my 4 week appointment I had lost another 4 pounds and then I was on regular food and eating up the whole house.

On August 7th I went in for my first fill and to my surprise I still had lost 4 pounds.   I was immediatly able to recognize that my fill was working when I ate dinner that night.  I learned later after eatting to much and vomitting that you have to pay attention to your body.  That when you fill full to top eating even if you only have one last bite on your  plate.  It  is that last bit that can send to the bathroom Slimming.  I learned the hard way to pay close attention to the sign  of being full.

Then I was having a problem getting 64 .oz of water down.  I am not a water drinker so I had to develop a liking for it.  I started drinking crystal light .  I still today have a problem drinking my water.  I have had 3 fills and I think that I have found my sweet spot.  The place where you eat and don't get hungry between meals and still lose weight.  I pray every day that I will continue to loss health weight and that I never have serious complications from the surgery.

My friends are very happy for me and continue to question me about how much weight I'v loss what I can and can't  eat, how I feel, and even told my husband that he better watch me because I was already fisty before surgery.  LOL  I feel so good about myself  and have went from a size 22/24 to good fitting 18.
I feel so much better about myself and when you feel better about yourself it is reflected in everything you do.  Yes I have a new walk, one with a little sway in it.  I also have started wearing high heels again .  something I was not able to do because it was just to much weight on my feet.  I enjoy shopping now and several times when trying on clothes I was able to get a smaller size.

I work at a highschool as a security Guard and kids can be really mean.  They would call me fatand other nasty things when I would tell them to go to class.  But  sense school started they have noticed that I am losing weight and have stop calling me fat .

I share my Lap Band experience with everyone who ask me how I lost my weight, and have even shared it with a few over weight people that I did'nt know.  This has been a wonderful experience for me and I look forward to a furture of being all of what God intend for me to be.

My husband is very supportive now even though he was not in the beginning.  I think that he thought that I would not follow the program and end up getting sick or something.  Once he seen that  I was serious about the surgery and seen me lossing the weight he was very proud of me.

My husband is a very nice looking man, a lot of times people would think that I was his mother instead of his wife, or  when we would see an old friend they would tell him how nice he looked but never comment on my looks, now they say you two look great.

Another thing is  that I love praising the Lord and when praising him i would easily get out of breath  but now  I go forth praising the Lord and feel good.  I love getting dressed to go out because my clothes fit so much better and I have so many to choose from.  I have not purchased many new clothes because I'm still lossing weight and next month I may be in a different size.  I tell you God is good all the time and all the time God is good.  I am now down 30 lbs and feel great.  I still struggle with the water issue but i keep plugging at it and one day I know that I will get 64oz down.
