Feb 21, 2008
I had my 3 month check up this morning and everything was in check. Today is my official 3rd month since VSG. Dr. T suggested that I get on a b-12 suppliment so I guess I will do as he asked. Anyway, all is good and thank you again to all my supporters at NTSC.
Hugs,

1 MONTH DOWN AND 34LBS GONE
Dec 28, 2007
Well, I'm one month down and LOVING THIS DECISION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My confidence and self esteem are that of none other. I love this surgery so much that I could tour and preach about it! LOL.
I am still taking my vitamins and prevacid, but I am pretty much off of protein shakes because I have found other ways to get all my protein without doing shakes or bullets. I'm finally starting to find foods that I don't mind having again, but certain foods do create that instant laxative for me - which I would love to stop doing, but I guess it could be worse - I could have constipation, which luckIly, I have not had.
Food is really weird, sometimes I just can't believe the things that I use to put in my body and now I have taken those things out of my house and my family is eating better. I never would have thought that I would hate so many things that I once loved. I remember how scared I was pre surgery about not being able to eat things that I like or ever having fatty foods again. Well trust me I try everything, i do not hold back or get scared to try something, if I don't try then I won't know! I still have my liquid addiction to milk and unsweeted iced tea. Milk is a great source of protein.
I'm so glad that I kept a few skinny clothes. I love that I can wear them now. I've gone from a 24 to an 18 in 1 month and I am down 34lbs. I feel it, I love it and it truly is a miracle. We are already planning our 1st family vacation to the Caribbean this summer - I haven't been to beach since my honeymoon - WHEN I WAS SKINNY and NOT AFRAID TO WEAR A SWIM SUIT! I will be wearing one this year!
Ciao my friends,
Shannon
TO EAT OR NOT TO EAT.........
Dec 13, 2007
Wow, has this been an experience (a good one I might add)! I have recently returned from a 5 day business trip and of course we ate out every night at $$$-$$$$ restaurants. Wheewwww talk about a challenge! It’s tough ordering a $50.00 piece of fish and then hoping no one notices that you ate 3 bits – BECAUSE, you can’t just ask your co-worker if you can share off their plate like you can your husband! LOL
Anyway, the one thing I am starting to notice is that I can’t hang around the restaurants for a long period of time. Meaning, one night we went to a steakhouse and after we ate, we hung around for dessert and coffee, well the continuous smell of charbroiled meat started to get to me (unlike my pre-surgery days) and I actually went to the bathroom and got sick. So, even if we are at Chili’s or Taco Bell, etc. I still get the same feeling, so when we go out as a family, we eat, get the check and get out! Weird huh!
Eating is very weird and yet it doesn’t frustrate me like I thought it would pre-surgery. I can eat something like Mexican food, Italian food, fast food, a piece of deli meat, eggs anything really and then after a few bits, I just want to gag, meaning it tastes gross. So, ok I get that I don’t like certain things that I once loved, but when am I going to find something to eat that I love or wouldn’t mind having again!!! Sometimes I would rather just not eat and have a protein shake or a glass of milk (which I forgot, I LOVE MILK – something I hated before).
So hey all you sleever’s out there give me some suggestions – what are your favorite foods?
My First Restaurant Experience

Well, the fam and I decided to hit the old Red Lobster last night. I was craving crab legs!!!!! My husband ordered his usual, stuffed flounder and I ordered my usual, the Admirals Feast, which comes with 1 lobster tail, 1lb of crab legs, 8 fried shrimp, 8 shrimp scampi, a baked potato loaded and a salad and it cost $22.50- just kidding!!! Instead we added the 1/2lb crab legs to my husband’s plate. I was really getting nervous about how this was going to work because it was at that moment when the waitress put down those wonderful cheddar bay biscuits - yeah, you know which ones!!!!! I took a small taste and it was wonderful, but I knew if I ate it, I would not be able to eat crab legs so I waited. I did order a vodka cranberry in a short glass and I was fine with that - I am a social drinker and wondered how that would pan out after surgery. It was fine - I just drank it prior to my meal and I didn't even finish it - normally I would have had 2-3 beers or 2-3 mixed drinks.
So finally the dinner bell has rang and the waitress puts down a fantastic basket of chicken fingers & french fries for my son and then my husbands plate of stuffed flounder & the snow crab legs (which was only 1 cluster). I was able to eat 2 legs and yes with lemon and butter and I also had about 3 small bits of my husband’s stuffed flounder. I was stuffed and satisfied, in fact, I felt the same way as I did when I would eat the entire Admirals feast plus about 4 biscuits prior to this surgery. The funny thing is that it didn't bother me that I couldn't eat more. Not only was our food bill less than half of what it normally was - I did order a cup to go of lobster bisque for lunch at home today.
After we got home, I changed into my pj's and then started to feel like my body was just sucking out every bit of water I had in it. It was then when I realized that the salt intake from the small amount of seafood had just taken a toll on me. I was sooo dehydrated and started drinking lots of cold water (which I am now addicted to ice water). I felt better after about 15 minutes, but the crazy thing, is that I probably won't care to eat crab legs again. I had that feeling that you get when after you eat something and you get sick , then you don't eat it for a long time, but I didn't vomit or anything - it was just the feeling. UGHHHHH! Oh and I threw away the lobster bisque - gross - just didn't want it not even for today.
So now looking back on myself and my habits, I can only imagine what my body was going through when I ate the admiral’s feast and thinking about all the salt that was in that entire plate plus the biscuits. I use to salt pizza for god sake!
Good new is I woke up this morning and dropped another 2.8lbs. Me lovin some gastric sleeve and I'm surviving all the fears that I had pre surgery better than I ever thought I would.
Hugs from me to you!
