On October 7, 1999, I had the Mini-Gastric Bypass procedure with Dr. Robert Rutledge, MD, in Durham, NC at Durham Regional Hospital. Six years later I hadn't lost all the weight I needed to lose and decided to have a revision to my gastric bypass procedure. At this time I had only lost 60 pounds.
On December 15, 2008, I had a revision Mini-Gastric Bypass procedure with Dr. Thomas Walsh, MD in High Point, NC at High Point Regional Hospital. During my procedure Dr. Walsh determined that when I had my original surgery back in October 1999, I had only 3 feet of intestines bypassed. It had been my understanding that I was given 6 feet of bypass back in 1999. Dr. Walsh bypassed the additional 3 feet of intestines, so that now I have a total of 6 feet of intestines bypassed. This has enabled me to lose an additional 80 pounds.
As of July 2008, I have lost a total of 130 pounds and would like to lose 20 more pounds.
During both surgeries, I had no complications. The only current issues I am having is that I have become iron anemic and I am currently starting Iron Infusions to bring my iron levels up. Treatment with extra oral iron has not resolved the low ferritin problems I was having.
