If I had it to do over again?????
Nov 20, 2010
It is Nov. 20 2010. Over 3 1/2 yrs out. The first year was great. Then everything went to hell and back. My gall bladder went bad, developed a bleeding ulcer that took over a year to heal...stricturesof the healing site. Stomach pain, vomitting, emotional and phys problems....My surgeon who I still see after all this time (which is VERY UNUSAL) is recommending reversing the gastric bypass. I am all for it..I am so SICK of being SICK. This has been going on for over 2 yrs! Quality of life I think at my age is what is most important. Some days I am fine and some days I am so sick I cannot function. My starting weight was 260 lbs.I now weiigh 169 lbs. If I gain weight after the reversal which I am all for...then so be it. I will do my best not to regain the weight that I worked so hard to lose. I am at risk of more ulcers, strictures and liver damage now...If I had it to do over again I would NOT do the gastric bypass but would do the lapband. Although my surgeon says that 20% of all patients have problems with the lapband and only 5% with the RNY. Unfortunately I am in the 5%. Would be interested in anyone else that has had these problems or has had to have the reversal.

Didn't think it would come to this! The dr. says I should be able to eat a meal..well I can't. Meat is so completely out of the picture...I can't eat one slice of pizza...I get sick on a salad or tuna or any kind of fish but I can eat a big piece of cake if I want it...figure this one out! I can't. The dr thinks it's acid reflux...so he has put me back on med's for that and I am doing some testing next Friday to check out my swallowing. If nothing comes of that I will get a scope done. Wish me luck and if anyone else has had this problem, I would definitely like to hear from you! Deb
Only 9 lbs to go

Doing the gastric bypass has changed my life considerably. I went from a size 22 to a size 10 and some things I can wear an 8. It's unbelievable the difference this surgery has made in my life for the better (of course) If I never lose another pound I will die a happy woman. My husband is always telling me NOT to lose anymore. Also my doctor told me that the weight I am if fine with him. I would like to make it to 150 lbs but I am OK if I don't. It has been an amazing journey and I highly recommend the gastric bypass to everyone! Down 101 and LOVING IT! Bye for now. Deb

One week till surgery
Mar 12, 2007
I weighed this moring and I have lost 25 lbs since starting the 6 month weight loss program. I started out at 260 lbs and now weigh 235 lbs. I figure I will lose maybe 5 more lbs before surgery. I am so ready for this. By this time next week I will have taken the 2 bottles of magnesium citrate (another YUCKY) and be on a clear liquid diet that day. Then off to the hospital at 5:30 am the next morning! Will post more then. Wish me luck! A special prayer wouldn't hurt either :-)
