28 Days Into the New Year!

Jan 28, 2007

I'm so excited and thankful for the Lord's blessings in my life!  I'm down 90 pounds and am working hard to reach that 100 pound mark.

I think I've really abused my treadmill here at home -- it came in handy when I couldn't get to the gym and needed to work out...  But it doesn't give me enough of a challenge.  lol  (Who'd have thought I'd ever be critiquing excercise equipment???)  So right now I'm shopping for a better quality one.

I remember this time last year, just hoping that I'd get approved for surgery.  And now I look back and I just say THANK YOU LORD!!!

12-27-06 Happy Holidays!

Dec 26, 2006

I hope everyone has had a wonderful holiday so far!  If you don't think you have, think about this:  you are still here to live another day.  Be thankful for all the little things and the big things won't seem so bad!

2006 is quickly coming to an end and I am so elated to see that I finally have kept to a resolution that I set on January 1st.  My goal this year was to become healthier and through the blessing of bariatric surgery, I am actively achieving that goal!  If I haven't said it before, I'm off of all meds for arthritis, high blood pressure, and diabetes.  I feel like a new woman!  I only take my supplements and rx for my anemia.  I'm still feeling wiped out, so I think my iron tabs will have to be adjusted upwards again soon.

For any ladies out there, let me also warn you that your period is going to go through some major changes once you have wls.  Dr says its due to engorged fat cells giving off their own hormones which suppress the reproductive system and affects the whole endocrine system...  I forgot all the technical stuff she shared, but I was like wow...  I suffered for years w PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome -check out www.soulcysters.com for more info) and I rarely had periods and was in essence, infertile.  It's weird but now I get periods regularly every 3 weeks AND I'm ovulating!  PCOS usually makes women infertile and I never thought of the possibility of having my own children.  But now, I may be able to.  Biggest problem however, is that my periods last for up to 9 days and I have all kinds of spotting in-between.  I've never bought so many sanitary feminine products in my life!

My surgeon also reminded me that the slowing down of my weight loss is normal...  I haven't lost all that much in the last month or so.  He said that is mainly due to my trying new foods, seeing what my pouch will tolerate, feeling hunger once again (common bw 6-9 mos out, and I'm right at 9 mos out) and of course the occasional poor food decisions.  I have about 20 more pounds to go to reach the 100 pound mark.  I want to get there by my re-birthday on March 21!

It's the most wonderful time of the year!!!  I absolutely loooove the holidays.  I'm a very spiritual & religious person and as I think of the reason for the season, I can't help but thank God for sending His son to endure all that He did to save us.

I'm also happy to say that this is my first holiday season after having WLS.  I remember in years past, how I would pig out and eat and eat mindlessly and constantly.  I used to live to eat.  Now, I realize how important it is to eat just to live.

Don't get me wrong...  I'm far from perfect!  As I've said before in my story, I have found that I tolerate sugars well.  A couple pieces of chocolate here and there go down without any distress to my pouch.  So I have to be very mindful of grazing.  I have issues with carbs in general, too.  Bread, pasta, crackers, etc. are truly my downfall.  I really have to watch those.

I believe the carb cravings, being stressed out at work, and not hitting the gym more are the reasons why the scale hasn't moved much in the last month.  I really want to step it up in these last few weeks of 2006 so I can look forward to my one year re-birthday with a nice loss in March.

It's been a looooong time since I've posted last!  So much has been changing since I last posted.

For starters, I'm down 81 pounds!  I can now run the 4 flights of stairs in my building without getting out of breath.  I can power walk on the treadmill (incline 6.5 at 3.0) for 45 minutes and not really break a sweat.  I can make it through an entire 60 minute workout class and keep up with the instructor!!!
