Hi, I am 54 yrs old and extremely obese. I have coronary artery disease,diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, knee joint disorder and a history of 30 yrs of tobacco usage. ( I think that is all). I did have a heart stent put in 2 years ago when I had an artery that was 95% blocked. They told me I had 3 more blockages but not enough to do anything about at the time. I have been battling weight all my life. You all know the story, -- take it off and then put it back on plus more. Well I just can't take it anymore and you all know the many reasons for that.
July I asked my PCP his thoughts about me having WLS. My heavens, he jumped off the chair and started making phone calls and passing me phone numbers to call and he said " I thought you would never ask". I since have had my pre op Stress test and pulmonary function test. He recommended Hershey Medical Center which is about 2 hrs from where I live. It is also where I had my heart stent put in so I feel comfortable having it done there. I don't even go for my information session until Sept. 20th. I asked them if my PCP jumped the gun a little my having me go thur all this pre op work so soon and was told no, that pre op could be done 1 yr ahead of time. I found this site and it is so full of information. I come home from work and spend the evening reading everything I can on this site. I have talked to people who had the surgery and all say they would have it again. I am a little afraid especially with my history of smoking and heart problems and being over 50 yrs old. I haven't met with a WLS doctor yet so maybe they won't do it but my PCP stated I was a prime candidate. There isn't a problem with my insurance covering this as long as it is medically necessary. Again my PCP says my records tell it all. I am sure I will update this as time goes go but right now this is where I am.
