3 years and 5 months out.

Sep 29, 2011

Again time has really gone by fast. Hard to believe it's been almost 3 and a half years since my Gastric Bypass surgery. I have had a lot of changes in my life since then.. A year after my surgery my marriage fell apart but I ended up finding the love of my life and got married again August 19Th, 2010. Everything was going well and I got down below my goal weight at 118 lbs!!! Unfortunately.. the past year I have gained 20lbs back. I had a lot of stress going on with my dad getting sick with cancer and passing away and then my mother being diagnosed with Alzheimer's. It hasn't been an easy year. I know I have been stress eating. I also lost my job back in Jan of this year and I have not gone back to work and I haven't gone to the gym either. I seem to be able to eat a lot more than I used to and I know I am not moving enough to burn it off! I know what I have to do to lose this weight. I just need to find the motivation to do it! I am hoping going back to the gym and getting involved in a WLS support group and getting back online with Obesity Help I can get this 20lbs back off. I was a size 4/6 now I am a size 6/8.. so have gone up one size... maybe 2 depending on the brand.. ugh. not good. I have to get back to losing weight and back on track!

WOW TIME FLIES!!

Feb 08, 2009

It's hard to believe its been 3 months since my last posting.. I am down to about 125 lbs now.. 5 more to lose. I have good weeks and bad weeks.. these last few pounds seem to be the hardest to lose especially now that I can eat more . I also am noticing I can eat pretty much what ever I want within reason, small portions. I really need to watch those carbs though and concentrate on more protien. ..
I still have some trouble with processed sugars or cane sugars.. I try to keep those under 12 grams a serving otherwise i feel sick.. sigh. I love the south beach diet products. Most of those are under 12grams of sugar or sugar alchohols.
I don't deprive myself of anything hardly... I just really make sure I watch those portion sizes and keep the carb, sugar and calorie count low!! May 12th is going to come up fast on me and I am hoping to be at goal then.. SO hopefully can lose 7-10 pounds in 3 months.. I think i can do it!!!
I started working out with a personal trainer at my gym 2 weeks ago and I am already noticing a difference in my skin tone and body.. I was getting pretty lose and flabby.. but not as bad as I thought I would be from losing over 70 lbs.. not counting the weight I had lost prior to surgery.
I think I will try to go to local surgery support group again... this time just not talk to many there  after what happend the first time I went with the hater there!! lol. oh,well..
I will try to blog more often.. times has just been going so fast...

I started off at a size 20...
I am now size 4/6  :)
I am happy

It's been a little while.

Nov 30, 2008

It's been a while since I made an entry here so just an update.
I had my 6 month post op check on Nov 6th and my surgeon said I am doing very good!! He was happy with my progress. At the time of my appointment I weighed 137 lbs and he said I look a lot smaller than my actually weight to he re evaluated my goal and decided that 110-115 lbs would be too thin for me and thinks that 120 would be much better. He thinks I am going to be one of those patients that will have a tendency to become under weight if I am not careful .He told me that he wanted me to start eating at least 1000 calories a day now up from the 600-800 I was eating. He said normally I would be at 1000 calories by my 1 year post op check but thinks I need to eat more sooner.
Ive been trying to eat more the past couple of weeks but it is very hard to do. I just get too full to fast. Especially if I snack or try to eat small meals threw out the day. Then I have the problem of not getting enough water or liquids in me because I cant drink at the same time I eat.

I thought Thanksgiving was going to be really hard on me.. all those carbs and sweets around. SO I decided to cook for my little family here at home instead of going to my parents or the in laws.
I made a Turkey Breast with apples and pears inside it..
I found some low carb stuffing mix by orowheat.. only 3 carbs per serving so not bad!!
I made some home made orange cranberry sauce sweetened with splenda.. I will have to post the recipe.. it turned out very good!! Even hubby liked it and he hates anything with artificial sweeteners.
Garlic Mashed potatoes with non fat milk and Smart Balance margarine in it.. very low fat this way.
Made a very low fat turkey gravy.
and also made 2 Dutch apple pies that were very low in fat and sugar!! I used the new Splenda that is mixed with Brown Sugar already. I was able to eat a small piece with No Dumping at all!! But moderation is key!!
My husband liked the pies too.. I didn't tell him at first it had Splenda but he kinda figured it did since I had some. :)
We ate at lunch instead of dinner so I could go for a walk after... was perfect.
When I weighed myself the next morning I thought for sure I probably gained a couple of pounds but to my surprise I actually lost 2 lbs!! YEAY!!!
I hope I can do as well with Christmas Dinner.

I hope everyone has wonderful holidays!!

I am 12 pounds from my new goal now.. :) and losing approx 5-6 pounds a month.. so hopefully will be at goal by the end of Jan. but I have till may 12.. my one year mark.

Slowely but surely and just how big is big enough?

Sep 25, 2008

Well I am down to 145 now in about 4 and a half months which is a 55 pound loss. I am losing slower than some people I know of but I also have less to lose than they do. I have read that the more you have to lose the faster it seems to go in the first few months. I am averaging anywhere between 1-3 pounds a week and some weeks I stall. I am hoping to be at goal by the holidays but I don't think  I will make it. I am just not losing that fast. I am about 30 pounds away from my goal of 115. MY surgeon would like to see me at 110 though. He said to give me "wiggle room" for weight regain. I don't even want to think about gaining ANYTHING back after all this. I am no longer morbid obese according to the BMI calculator on OH but now just Over weight woohoo! I am so happy to be just over weight now ,giggle

I went to a local support group meeting last weekend that was less that 5 minutes from my house. I haven't really been to one and thought I should start going if nothing else but to listen and learn even if I don't share anything useful. Well.. when I first got there I almost left, I was insulted by one of the old timer regulars there. She had the Nerve to ask me what my starting weight was and then told me she didn't think people who were My weight should have the surgery because SHE felt they were not big enough and that SHE was 375 lbs and my same heigth. I just looked at her funny and said.. we are all different and I had health problems from my weight. She told me I started out at pretty much one of her goal weights in the beginning. I kind of turned my back on her at that point and started talking to someone else. I so wanted to leave. She made me feel uncomfortable and not welcomed but I decided to stay once others started to arrive. Glad I did. I learned a lot that day and even met some who only had about 100 pounds to lose like I did with the same health issues
I just have One question.. just how big is BIG ENOUGH? for weight loss surgery of any kind??? 200, 300 , or do you have to be Super Obese at 400 plus? And do we have to wait till we get so big and ill health that it makes the surgery more complicated or dangerous?
I was 235 at my heaviest at 4'11" I was able to get down to 205 and 200 by going on Glucophage but never seemed to be able to lose any more than that on my own... My BMI was over 40.. My Doctors all felt I was a good candidate for Roux n Y or lap band. I didn't want to have to deal with getting fills done or band slippage and wanted something more permanent. I am happy with my choice and I am so glad I had supportive Doctors and family. I am thankful I found Dr Jossart who has been wonderful to me. I couldn't have asked for a better Surgeon.

Cutting the bad carbs out worked!

Sep 03, 2008

Since my last post 3 days ago I have lost 3 pounds!! A pound a day! I quit eating things I felt might have been stalling me for weeks. No more pita chips or triscuits.. and cut way back on the beef jerky and snacking.. Lessoned learned!!
I am now down to 151 after about 3 weeks of stall. :) On the 12th I will be 4 months out and I would like to be below 150 pounds by then. I know I can do it now!!

Bad habits die hard

Aug 30, 2008

I am feeling so crappy.. realized tonight I am slipping back to my old ways of grazing and snacking on crap. Triscuits, pita chips and soy chips.. ok..i know this doesn't sound tooo terrible but the carbs add up! I realized I was making too many trips to the kitchen to snack and graze like I used to!! I need to stop with the beef jerky too. I know it's protein but also loaded with salt and calories, Sigh. I am down to 154 now and stalling for a couple of weeks. I am pretty sure its because of my old bad habits returning.. :(
I need to just go threw my kitchen cubbords and toss all the snack food crap out!! Family doesn't really need to be eating this either.

WOW I cant believe its been over 2 months now

Jul 28, 2008

I am about 2 and a half months out now from my surgery. I have lost 40 pounds as of today. August 12th will be 3 months. I am hoping to lose another 5 pounds by then to be halfway to my goal .. My surgeon wants me at 105-110 pounds :) I hope I can get there..
I started working out at the gym consistantly as of last week. It seems to be working really well.. 20 minutes of cardio and then weight training. I am hoping to get a personal trainer soon but it's expensive at my gym and I need to save up some money first.
I am hoping to get to my goal weight by the 6 month post op mark which will be Nov 12th.

Been a little while

Jul 20, 2008

We had a blast at Disneyland .. they had a lot of very healthy snacks around the park at little stands.. Fresh fruit. I was able to snack on watermelon which was so refreshing on those hot days! The restaurants in the park had some very healthy choices on the menu's .. I was very impressed. I had no problem finding things I could eat and Be OK! THey also where very good about letting hubby and I share the dinners. would bring 2 plates with the dinner already devided but charge for just one meal.. it was wonderful.
So anyone planning a Disney Vacation this summer and a couple of months out from surgery.. you will have NO problem!! THey even had sugar free hand made chocolates in the chocolate shop! I had one piece and it was yummy!! What the heck it was vacation!! Had to try it. :)
SO I went shopping today and I bought size 10 jeans!!! WOW!! I had been wearing a 14 for a month .. and they were getting baggy ... so I decided to just grab 10's instead of 12's and the 10 fit perfect.. I almost wish I had bought 8/9 instead even if they are tight because will fit me soon anyway but oh,well... I will just wear baggy jeans untill I am down to a size 8. :)

hope everyone is doing well and having a great summer!!!

7 weeks or so.. monday July 7th will be 8 weeks.

Jul 01, 2008

I have been doing pretty good.. about 7 weeks out now from my Roux en Y. I am finding out I do better with eating beef... lean steaks and very lean hamburger than chicken.. chicken is still not staying down to well but I try every few days to see if I can handle it.. sometimes it is ok.. but most of the time I just throw it up. THank goodness I can have fish and beef though! I started eating a few more very well cooked veggies to my diet because I was getting so badly constipated. Seems to be helping a lot!! Broccoli and asparagus.

This week we are going on vacation. THis will be a real test of my will power !!! We are going to Disneyland!! yeay! I just hope I don't get tempted by all that yummy junk food there and get sick . Wish me Luck. we are leaving early tomorrow morning (weds july 2nd.)

5 weeks out

Jun 15, 2008

Hi everyone. I am just about 5 weeks out monday the 16th of June.

I have been eating some solid foods and chewing verrry well the past week... along with my softer foods..

I am finding some things very hard to tolerate and they make me  I can't have chicken ... especially if it is kind of dry.. no way !! makes me soooo sick.. Was throwing up for about an hour and a half and thinking.. OK. I did NOT even eat this much.. why and how and I puking this much! then realized how much foamie stuff and just liquid was mixed in..

I also got very sick on a piece of Grilled Salmon tonight when we went out to dinner for my daughters 5th birthday and Fathers day.. It was also wayyyy to dry but I ate a small portion of it and gave the rest to my husband to eat. 10 minutes later I had a runny nose, pain in my pouch like it was all stuck.. then had to vomit.. ugh!! At least this time I only did it twice and was feeling better quickly. I think I kept most of it down.

THe two things I was told I might not be able to tolerate well untill a few months later is beef and eggs.. funny thing is.. I am doing great with very lean beef that is cooked medium so it is juicy.. and eggs sunny side up are wonderful. I was even able to eat a turkey saucage patty this morning! yummm.
