I don't believe I have ever been so full that I just couldn't eat another bite.  My husband used to buy me whatever I wanted to eat when I wanted it.  Sometimes I asked why he didn't get something for himself and he would say he wasn't hungry.  WHAT DOES THAT HAVE TO DO WITH EATING!  If you don't eat you might GET hungry and that is a scary thought.  After 32 years of marriage, he has moved a little closer to my way of thinking but he still has a much more reasonable attitude as far as eating is concerned.

A few years back I fell into a very deep depression.  At the time I weighed 300 lbs and quickly lost 50 lbs without effort as I had little interest in food (yes, I was very sick).  Soon I was unable to work or leave the house.  I was hospitalized and put on heavy duty psych meds.  After I was discharged I started to gain weight in a hurry.....115 lbs in less than a year.  Three of my doctors recommended WLS but my insurance didn't cover it so I planned a trip to Mexico for a DS.  Just months before I put our house on the market to pay for it, we received word from the insurance company that they would be covering the RNY (only the RNY) under extreme circumstances beginning Jan 1, 2007.  I qualified after a six month program including a required 30 lb weight loss.  On 1/1/07 I weighed 365 lbs.  On the day of my surgery, 8/27/07, I weighed 335 lbs.  I was still unable to walk more than a few feet without extreme back pain from the abdominal weight I carried, I still had panic attacks at the thought of leaving the house and being around people I didn't know and I still stored all my meds in two gallon sized zip lock bags.

I would like to say surgery went well but it didn't.  I had a serious leak and was in the hospital 24 days and had nursing care for several weeks after I got home.  I was under general anesthesia four times altogether and my hospital bill was over $150K.  I thank god every day that I didn't go through this as a self-pay.  I do not blame anyone for these problems and the possibility of a leak is something you know about going in.  The care I received was the best.

It has taken me this much time to decide it was worth it, complications and all.  I have lost 105 lbs, 75 lbs of that in the five months since my surgery.....not as fast as some but far better than I could have done on my own.  I go to the grocery store now, something I hadn't been able to do for years.  I can walk all the ailes at Costco and even went to an RV show last weekend.  I think I can live with this and I know I couldn't have lived much longer without it.
