LIFE IS GOOD !!!

Life is good for me now. I thought I would update my profile for the new year.
It is Jan, 29, 2008 and I am 7 months out from surgery. As of this morning I am down 146 pounds. It is so hard to believe that I have lost that much weight. I have joined a yoga class through the hospital that I had my surgery and have entered a half marathon and 5K run/walk. I will be doing the 5k walk (3.1miles). It is also sponsored by my HMO. It will take place in San Francisco, CA on February 3rd ( super bowl Sunday). We will be walking in Golden Gate Park. I cannot tell you how much life has changed for me since this surgery. It seems like there are no words to describe it. Hoping everyone can feel this in their lifetime.
SIX MONTHS OUT

I cannot believe that it has been six months since I had surgery. As of today I have lost a total of 132 pounds. I lost 45 pre-op and 87 since surgery. My life has changed so much. I feel like I am living life now. I belong to a gym and work out 2 times a day. One year ago I did not even want to walk from my car to my house. I am up to around 4-5 miles a day on the treadmill. I am so much more happier. I feel that I am more open with people. Life is good. I thank myself for going through with this surgery and my surgeon, Dr. Baggs without him I do not think this surgery would of been so successful.
UPDATE ON MY JOURNEY

Last night I was weighed in at my support group meeting and I have lost 115 pounds. I had lost 45 pounds before surgery. I am feeling great. I have not had any problems at all. I feel so blessed that I have been problem free.
I am officially a gym club member. I have said that I would never ever join a gym. My oldest son kept telling me that there are all sizes at his gym. He finally convinced me to go with him a few weeks ago. I went and he was right. I was not the largest person there. A few nights ago he asked me to go again and when I walked in door of gym one of the employees came up to me and asked my son if I was his mother. I said yes and introduced myself. He said congratulations and handed me a temp. membership card and told me that my son had put me on his membership. I could not believe it.
My son told me later that he was worried about me walking now that it gets dark so earlier.
I have been going everyone night. So far I just walked on the treadmill. Maybe someday I will venture into the pool.
One Month Check up

Saw my surgeon yesterday. He said everything looked great. He asked me if I have had any kind of problems. Looked at my little scars and basically said I looked great. He said my weight lost is right on schedule. I told him that for the past 9 days I had not lost anything and he said the body is trying to catch up with the weight lost. He said that you have lost 65 pounds since March. He said it will start up again and just keep walking like I have been. Today I get on the scale and I am down 2 pounds, go figure. I am so Thankful that I have not had any problems since surgery. I pray everyday that it continues like this.
Had My Sugery

My surgery went great. They had scheduled my surgery for 1pm so I had to be there at 11am. They took me right back and started prepping me for surgery. Before they even put you in to chair they weigh you to make sure you are still below or at goal weight. I was 15 pounds under goal a total of 45 pounds since March 12th. The Doctor came in and told the nurses to get the IV in me because they were ready for me. I went in at 12:30. Woke up in recovery and looked at the clock it was 3:30. The nurse told me that I had been there an hour and I was ready to go to my room. She said she had asked me acouple of times if I wanted a shot for pain. I told her no, so she asked me again and I told her no. As soon as they got me in my room she told the nurse on the ward that I did not want a shot for pain. She asked me if I wanted to get up and walk and I said yes. So they got me up and I walked around the nurses station and back to my room so they took the catheter out. I stayed in the hospital one night and came home the next afternoon. Everything has been going wonderful.
Two More Days Until Sugery

It is Saturday the 16th. Just two more days until my surgery. I went to the classes that I talked about lastin my last post and they were really just a recap of what we have been told. It was an all day thing. First class started at 10am and the second class started at 2pm so we had two hours to just wondering around the hospital. I hit commute traffic coming home so was really tired when I got home.Went to see my surgeon yesterday. They weighed me in and I am down 43 pounds since orientation. He wanted me to lose 25 so down 18 pounds from his goal for me. He said he was very impressed with my weight lose in such a short amount of time. To me 13 weeks is not a short amount of time. Saw the NP for my physical she said everything is looks great for surgery. So I guess I will post after I get home from the hospital.

I went to my support group meeting on the 30th and was weighed-in. I reached my goal weight for surgery. I am actually six pounds under their goal weight for me. I was told at the support meeting that I would be contacted by the case manager in a week to set up all of my tests and schedule a surgery date. They also said that the surgeries are being schedule about 4-6 weeks out. The very next morning while I was getting ready for work the case manager called and asked me if I could come to see her that morning. She booked me for 11 am. I went and saw her and she told me that I had done wonderful and would I like a surgery date. My surgery date is set for June 18th. I cannot believe all this happen within 24 hours. Had all my testing done, EKG, Labs,chest xray. I will post more as soon as I know more.

WELL I HAD MY FIRST WEIGH IN SINCE I SAW MY SURGEON. THE HMO THAT I BELONG TO REQUIRES 10% WEIGHT LOSS BEFORE SURGERY. I HAVE LOST 16.1 POUNDS IN A MONTH. THE HEALTH EDUCATOR WAS VERY PLEASED WITH ME. SHE TOLD ME IF I KEEP UP LIKE THIS I SHOULD HAVE MY SUGERY SOMETIME IN MAY. I CAN'T BELIEVE IT. IT REALLY HAS NOT BEEN HARD. THEY WANT US ON A 1200 CALORIE DIET,MOSTLY PROTEIN. I HAVE TRIED TO KEEP WITH THAT. THEY ALSO WANT US TO STOP DRINKING WATER WHILE WE EAT. THAT HAS BEEN HARD. IT IS NOT SO HARD WHEN I AM BY MYSELF BUT IF THERE ARE OTHERS AT THE TABLE EATING WITH ME AND THEY ARE DRINKING IT'S HARD.....
