In June 2008 I had the Lap-Band done, at the time I was a single mother of 2 years with 2 boys just trying to start our lives over. The marriage was terrible and had lasted too long , 7 years. I stayed for the boys but in reality we were not living life. Dad was & still is an alcoholic and that's is all I care to say about that. Our lives changed after that, I gained the strength and confidence to go to nursing school in June 2009. Life was going great and things were happening for my children and myself. The band assisted in helping me make the necessary changes to achieve weight loss. I kept that weight off from 2008-2011. In 2011 the weight started to creep back on, but I was having difficulty eating and food getting stuck. I saw my doctor a few times in between 2011-until Dec 2012. After having several tests done he found the hiatal hernia. The hiatal hernia was affecting the placement of the lap-band which was affecting what I could eat. I was compensating by eating things such as slider foods that could go down easily since I was having difficulty eating/food getting stuck. Which is why I was putting on the weight. My doctor said that he could fix the hiatal hernia and put the lap-band back in place but there was a possibility that this could happen again. So with that said I have opted to have the RNY which I feel I should have done in the first place. I have gained all of my weight back since having the problems and can't wait to get back to living life to the fullest again!! I feel like my life has been on hold this last 1 year and 5 months. I am looking forward to possibly losing more weight this time than I did with the lap-band.  Although,  I was happy with the 60lb weight loss, I always felt I should have lost more ,and I was not where I wanted to be. I feel like with the up coming RNY I have a new lease on life!
