Gee, where do I begin.   I guess at the beginning.  As a child, I was very, very thin.  I never ate anything except mayonnaise sandwiches.  I grew up in a very loving Italian home, with a mom who could cook better than anyone in the world.  She made all her own homemade pasta (which we had three nights every week), and could cook up a feast for 20 without any notice at all.  I started to put on weight as a teenager, continued through my young adult life, and still continue now through my middle-aged years.  I hate being fat.  Always have.  Tried lots and lots of times to lose and could never get past 50 lbs.  Once I lose 50lbs I stall and then start to gain it all back, and then some.  One day I was chatting with my daughter and she mentioned to me that the mother of her girlfriend had to be hospitalized.  The friend's mother weighs the same as me.  My daughter told me it took 8 paramedics to get her into the ambulance.  It was my defining moment.  I knew I had to do something.  The next day I started my research on weight loss surgery.  I decided on Barix in Langhorne.  I had my consultation in May with Dr. Boe and attended my first support group meeting there the week after.  I am now three weeks away from surgery and am very happy with my decision to move forward with this life-changing event.

A little bit about me.  I have been married for 35 years to my husband Ray.  Our marriage has been rocky at times, but somehow we have managed to survive the hard times and are now happy with our life together.  I have two grown children, Renee, 31, and Bryan, 30.  I have the sweetest granddaughter, Abigail, who is 17 months old.  She is my heart, my soul, my LIFE.  I am very fortunate to have a very close, loving family who supports me 100% through this journey.

I am a word processing supervisor at a very large lawfirm in downtown Philadelphia.  I work 10 to 12 hours per day in a very busy office, but spend most of that time sitting at a desk in front of a computer or on the phone.  I get very little exercise and will really have to concentrate hard on adding more movement to my life after surgery.

I hope I have the fortitude to hang in.  Only time will tell.
