About Five Months Post-Op
Oct 12, 2012
Well, this coming Sunday will be 5 months since my surgery and I think I've just come through my first plateau. I was beginning to freak out because I hadn't lost any weight in about a month. I kept gaining and losing the same two pounds. There were several factors that could possibly be involved. My endocrinologist lowered my dose of Synthroid, I reduced my protein intake, wasn't drinking enough water, and started eating a lot of things I shouldn't have been eating. There were several "happy" events to celebrate, and I allowed myself to fall off the wagon. I also started feeling really really tired and quit doing my walking.
So, what, you may ask, did I do about this plateau? Well, I started with what I always do when something weird happens. I searched the OH website for "plateau". It appears that plateaus are normal, but that didn't dispell my fear that I had already screwed everything up. You see, I felt like I was able to eat more and hadn't had any problems with dumping or anything. I was starting to feel "normal". As in, the normal I felt prior to surgery. Anyway, in my research I discovered the 5 Day Pouch Test and decided to try it. Mind you, I am only on day 2 of this test. I have a terrible headache and can't wait to have some real food, but I have already dropped 3-4lbs. I even feel better (besides the headache).
Additionally, I went for a walk last night and decided to act on my urge to run. You see, I frequently feel an urge to run. It's so weird. I have little spurts of feeling energetic and just want to run, but I never act on it. I decided to push my fears aside and did some jogging. Mind you, I probably only jogged about a quarter mile in total, but it felt GREAT! It felt awesome to run past 6 or 7 houses in my neighborhood and not feel the need to fall to the ground gasping for air. I even recovered my breathing fairly quickly after each spurt.
Hopefully this blog entry about "breaking the plateau" isn't premature. I have faith that it's not and that I'm back on track. I just can't wait till tomorrow when I get to eat some eggs!!! I need fooood!
p.s. I was able to fit back in to my wedding dress today! Woo hoo!
