1 Week Post-Op

Dec 21, 2009

Its been 1 week ago today I had my RNY- I have lost 16 lbs. in 1 week, AMAZING!  As for the surgery, I was really sore right afterwards, but it has gotten much better over the last week. I really have not had much nausea aside from some occasional within the 1st 2 days, and I haven't needed much pain medication after coming home. I did use that morphine pump quite a bit in the hospital though, lol!

I have to say that I never realized how addictive food really is. I WAS ADDICTED. It is an emotional roller coaster when the only thing in your life that comforts you is taken away.  Before my surgery, I would eat when I was sad or upset, and it would make me happy, If I was Happy, I would eat, and it would make me even happier. My life revolved around FOOD. I have to admit the 1st 2 days home I felt like I was starving, but I called my friend Shelley who had her surgery 1 year ago December 8th ( She looks awesome by the way) and she told me it was all in my mind, and she was right, I sat down and actually focused on my stomach for a minute and asked myself, " Is it my stomach that is hungry"? and of course, the answer was NO.  Physically I was not hungry, In my mind though, I was starving. Every time I saw a commercial on TV about food I would have to look away, I couldn't smell food because I would want it. It has gotten better day by day though.

I have gotten on my scale several times a day, and each time I'm down, That really helps!!! That and the fact that I keep reminding myself why I got this surgery, For my kids (As well as myself) but mainly them. I look at them setting there watching TV, and just think about how I want to be able to play outside with them when it gets warm, and not being to tired to do anything with them and it helps so much, to just keep thinking that them having a good mom is waaay more important than ANY FOOD.

I am going to the grocery store in the morning to get my cream of chicken and tomato soup, as well as my protein shakes. I think they will help alot too. I never want to see chicken or beef broth again. I was only able to do that for about 2 days and It was good at 1st but then..yuck, you can only drink so much of it.
