I began researching WLS seriously about six months prior to having surgery. I had researched WLS casually for a couple of years, but thought it was not for me. Then last April I was diagnosed as very POST menopausal at 42 years old. I had been going through menopause without even knowing it! Hormones only increased my weight problems.

I used to be able to lose weight when I excercised. I work out with a trainer five days a week for 60-90 minutes a day. I feel great, but the weight continued to move upward, despite no changes in my eating. That really scared me. I felt old before my time. I had to do something to reclaim my life back.

I feel accomplished and proud of most areas of my life. The weight is my last bastion of struggle. Then I found the http://www.clos.net site. I read about the Mini Gastric Bypass and knew that this was the surgery for me. Less surgery time, faster recovery and comparable results to RNY with less complications. It sounded like a match for me.

My surgery on November 22, 2005 in Las Vegas, NV. Dr Robert Rutledge was the surgeon. I had to complete a huge packet of study materials and the surgery went well. 21 minutes under anesthesia.. that's all. I had two good weeks, Then came the nausea. It was non food induced nausea, it felt hormonal and it only got better after 13 weeks of constant throwing up. In all his patients, he has not had another like me. Since it reacted to hormone replacement, I am deducing that it had to be some sort of hormonal imbalance.

I am fine now almost 18 months out from surgery and over 131 pounds down. I feel fantastic. This was so lifechanging for me. The first part of the journey was rough, but now I am reaping the benefits. Seriously, if someone would have told me "Barb, you will be renchingly nauseous for three months but you will get this result.." I would have the surgery again. That has to say volumes for how life changing it has been for me.

Feel free to email me. I will blog here and post more as I go along.

We might fall.
Come to the edge.
It's too high!
Come to the edge.
And they came,
and we pushed,
And they flew. "
