It is done!

May 28, 2010

Thank you Lord for this day you have made!!!!!!!! I had my surgery on May 25th 2010. My surgery itself went well. No complications what so ever! I stayed in ICU 2 nights as this is what my surgeon always do because he wants to make sure you are kept a close eye on. After surgery I felt a little groggy and sleep 7 hours! I guess I needed the rest with six kids at home waiting on me HUH?? Well after I woke up I was not in to much pain I was just surprised at all the stuff I was hooked up to. An IV, 2 JP drains, heart monitor, blood pressure sleeve, and leg pressure massages.
They had me walking as soon as I got up from my nap which was hard with all the suff I was hooked up to. Everyone said that walking would help with the gas but I really did not start feeling gas pressure and rumbling in my tummy until the 2nd night. I did however do a lot of burping.
They keep me well medicated so I was not in to much pain. Just a lot of pressure from the JP drains. It was easy for me to get my water intake in which they had me sipping 30cc of it every half hour. I was pretty thirsty once they let me drink something after the 2nd day.
The 2nd day is when I went to xray to see if I had any leaks. Now out of the whole experience, that was the hardest for me. They mad me drink that awful stuff and then rotated me on the table to coat my stomach to look for leaks. I had to wait 10 min then stand up on the table and drink more of that nasty stuff while they took what seemed like 1000 xrays of my gut. Boy was I glad that was over. I sleep pretty well that night and walked the halls like crazy.
By the 3rd day I was bored out of my mind and walked like a manic! I read a lot of old magazines and went online to some other RNY sites to check them out. (I like this one better) Anyhoo, my drains started to burn and itch which the nurse told me they were ready to come out. I thought I was in heaven when she said that because at that point my IV and drains were driving me crazy.
This morning when I awoke my nurse told me that the DR put me on full liquids. They gave me tea no ice, cream of chicken, a protein shake, coffee, jello, and beef broth! I looked at all that food and wondered if they really wanted me to eat all that! I know they did not so I just drunk the protein shake 6oz which took me over an hour to do. For the first time in my life I realized what being full was, not over stuff which is what I was used to feeling.
I had to force myself to eat and drink because at this point I was not hungry or thirsty. I to be honest I am still not. So once I got home I had a 1/2sugar free jello pudding and some water.
So that is my store so far..right now I am feeling like myself and even been washing dishes a little!
