This is my story of how I finally decided to have Weight Loss Surgery. It all started back in August 2007 when I fell and hurt my knee which required surgery. My knee is beyond repair and the Dr. says I need a knee replacement. Can't do it because I'm too young. Since then I have had nothing but trouble, my back started hurting in January and my leg would go numb. Well since January I had a bunch of painful tests done on my back and I found out that I needed to have some major surgery to repair herniated discs. It's gotten so bad that my back hurts when I stand or walk and my knee problem doesn't help. I haven't worked since November, and the only places I can go is to a store that has electric carts to use. So, on Oct. 15th I went in to talk to the surgeon and set up a surgery date to get this done, after 10 months of pain I'm thinking relief is in sight. He sends me home and says he'll call with the date. Next day he calls and tells me over the phone that he can't do the surgery because I'm too fat. WHAT???? He explained that my weight would cause the procedure to fail (putting rods and screws and plates into my back). He finished by saying that I should have weight loss surgery and call him after I lose weight. Yeah right!! Great bedside manner. I hung up and cried, not just sobbing, really crying. I was so hurt by what he said. Nobody ever said I couldn't do something because of my weight. My husband came home from work and found me crying, I told him through my sobs what had happenned. He calmed me down and we talked. Realizing that the Dr. was right. Even if I didn't like what he said or how he said it. My weight is a big problem. My back is going to get worse and soon I won't be able to walk at all. So to the internet I went. I spent all night reading other peoples stories, and looking up doctors. First thing that morning I told my husband my plan. I was going to call and find a doctor to talk to about this. So that's how this journey of my new self begins.
