Two week countdown....14 days

May 23, 2010

So the liquid pre-op diet will be starting tomorrow.

My wonderful husband fired up the grill tonight and through on some t-bones from my brother's side of beef.  Oh my!  They were tasty and tender and a great ending to my old ways.  I started out today with a cinnamon roll with my boys and as I looked at them I knew this was the right choice to make and that yes this would effect them, but I want them to grow up seeing healthier decisions made in the home.  Nothing against my mom, but a well balanced  diet was not on the top of our priorities.  Yes she did well with us, but we were carb loaded on a regular basis.  I really do worry for them that this next month will be difficult.  How much do we tell them?   What about when I'm in the hospital?  These are the questions that remain for us.

I went shopping today...boy the next two weeks are going to be not very exciting in the food department.  Here we go:  sugar free jello, broth, carnation instant breakfasts, water, crystal light and protein shakes.  I also have my pre-natal vitamins, vitamin D,  calcium.  What am I missing?  I have my last pre-op appt with the Dr., nut., and my husband.  How lucky I am to have him in my corner!

Erick will be feeding the boys at his mom's.  I stocked him up on his favorites to cook:  chicken nuggets, taquitos, pizza, pbj.  Veggies:  beans, peas, mixed, corn, lettuce.  Fruit:  oranges, grapes, bananas, watermelon.

exercise is underway

Nov 17, 2009

Last week Nick ( my 7yo son) and I went to the local YMCA and joined.  On both W & F I walked 1 mile and 1.25 miles respectively.

Saturday I drug my DH, Erick, to the Y for a one hour orientation of how to use the machines.  A trainer walked us around and showed us the machines and how to adjust them.  I will never remember how to use them.  I need to either find a friend who is comfortable with them or pay for a trainer.  I wouldn't mind someone writing a workout regiment to help me work on muscle toning.

Yesterday, Nick and I walked another 1.25 miles. (well he jogged circles around me!)

Today was the big one...I tried a "Beginner's Spinning" group class.  After about 10 minutes I was tearing up and wanted to walk away.  I struggled to do anything.  I could stand up and sit down while adjusting the resistance, but I can not 'hover'  It made me feel a bit defeated.  I decided to close my eyes and just do what I could do.  Most of the time I sat and just pedaled.  I would keep up with the reisistance and the pace.  I found the sprints to be confidence building when they were finished.

Preparing for surgery

Protein Supplements--I am really worried about losing my hair.  It is already thin from the PCOS and there are areas that are so thin that you can see scalp through the hair.

I have begun to ask for samples from companies and order different types.  .  Protein supplements that I like have deemed ok in water:
Bariatric Advantage:  Chocolate--It had a pre-pudding texture, a little chalky but I liked that it came in a convenient container.  It was sweet with little aftertaste.    Nectar:  Cappucino--Very smooth, not chalky.  It was a sweet cappucino.  I would like to try this in milk next time.

Protein supplements that I would have to be dying before using again:  Bariatric Advantage:  Vanilla-- this was very pukey.  There was a terrible after taste, it was extremely chalky.
