I've been on a diet for 15 years and constantly gaining weight. I often joke that I have to work hard at being this big. I thought about WLS as an option for the last three years. I initially dismissed the idea because I thought I was not nearly big enough to consider such drastic measures. That was at least 30 pounds ago. Those 30 pounds have wreaked havoc on my knees. I am 33 years old and must hold on to the railings in order to hoist myself up stairs. It's quiet embarrassing when you are traveling with a group. Even my dog runs up the stairs past me and sits at the top staring at me in amazement as I slowly drag up. I think the pitiful look the dog gives me is what pushed me over the edge.
I'm very fortunate to have been approved quickly. The entire process took about a month. I also was lucky enough to have done my six months of doctor supervised diets prior to even considering the surgery. I thought it was a waste of time and a rip-off, since I gained more weight while in the plan. However, it turned out to be useful after all! I'm schedule for surgery on 8/31! I'm very excited and scared all at once. He comes the new me.
