EGADS!!!!

Apr 30, 2007

So I just get an e-mail.... my 10 year class reunion is scheduled for November 24th! So I sit back and I look at where I have come from to where I am now. Not quite so bad except for this weight thing. I am actually thanking goodness that they didn't schedule this thing for earlier.

With any luck by then I will be a couple months out from surgery and down a few pounds. At least is all goes right. Shoot for that matter if all goes right I will be about 5 months out and a BUNCH of pounds down!

If by some chance I have not had my surgery by then,. I honestly don't know if I want to go or not. Yes I know people change over the years and look different, but it seems the majority of my class has not. I look at their pictures on MySpace and I run into them here and there and by golly gee a lot of them look skinnier now then they did then. Am I the only one who got fat?

Anyway I have like 6 months to see how things play out on my life..... We'll see what happens.....

Insurance stuff....

Apr 16, 2007

So I went away for the weekend with the National Guard and I came home and there was a letter on my fax machine from my Health insurance. According to this letter the criteria for approval for the surgery are,,, Patients height, weight, BMI, failed weight loss attempts, psychiatric and nutritional consults, CPT codes, diagnoses codes, doctor, date of service, and place of service.

Doesn't sound like all that much to me. Guess I will just have to wait and see when I go, if they require the 6 mos supervised diet or what. But hopefully from the way I am reading this I don't, but we'll see.

Today

Apr 13, 2007

Well I saw my PCP today. Told him about my plans to see a Weight Loss surgeon and what not. My PCP is very supportive and said he will be behind me every step of the way. When he asked me which surgeon I was seeing, he told me as my "guidance" person he would not recommend him. He wouldn't specify why, said he didn't want to bad mouth, but did tell me that he would definitely prefer I see a different doctor. Seeing how I have known my PCP since I am like 10 years old, I took his word and canceled my appointment.

I then called Barix and scheduled with them. Thankfully they are able to get me in on the same day I had taken off for my other appointment. So I still have my initial consult on the 19th It is now with Dr. Boe.  When they asked me what my insurance was, the girl said I have a good one, that they are great to work with and usually have no problem with approvals from them! YAY!

I called my PCP and told him I scheduled with them and he was glad because that is one he suggested I look into. So Now I can't wait until next week so we can get the ball rolling on this whole thing.

As a side note, I have had a lump on my neck for about a year and a half now and noone has done anything about it. I had changed doctors when I moved, then came back to my PCP. I spoke to him about the lump today and he thinks it is only a cyst, but is sending me to have it removed and biopsied. So we'll see how that goes. He also had blood work drawn on me and I should have all those results this afternoon since I asked them to fax them to my home.

Got a lot accomplished today so I feel really good. Now I just have to go pack my gear. I am in the Army National Guard and have drill this weekend, so I need to get my stuff packed :)

And away we go......

I have been visting OH on and off for about 3 years. I started reading up on peoples experiences when my aunt had her surgery 3 years ago. well here it is 3 years later and I am beginning my own journey. I am 5'6 or maybe 5'7 and weigh in somewhere around 245. Just a few pounds shy of a 40 BMI. It just depends on what day I get weighed and what time of day I get weighed. Anyway, I, like everyone else have tried evry diet and exercise plan known to man with no success. I have finally gotten to the point where I know this will be the best i can do for me. I see myself heading down the same path my aunt was on before she had hers done and I am scared. I don't want to weigh 333 pounds deciding it is time to do something. I want to take care of it now. Everyone in my family keeps telling me if I keep going the way I am I am going to wind up just like her. We have the same body type and everything. So I took the plunge and contacted a doctor. I have a consult on April 19th with him. I have an appointment with my family doctor before that to do some bloodwork and see if we can get me in for a sleep study. So really I am at the very beginning of my journey. I know my insurance covers WLS, but don't know yet about the 6 mos diet or anything else they may require. Docs nurse said they will find all that out while I am in my consult. I guess the initial visit is about 1.5-2 hours longThey also told me I am welcome to attend the support group meeting on the 4th, but I won't be in town :( I would have really liked to have gone.
