This is my story, this is my song.....(smile)I've been heavy all my life. I found out after high school that I had high blood pressure and diabetes, of course, I was naive to the fact that these things were serious, so I did what i wanted to do, ate what I wanted not knowing I was killing myself. As you know things got worse.... In 2004 I was diagnosed with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome. I started going to DUKE Endocrindology clinic in Durham NC, I had a level of 400 male testosterone hormones in my system, then I got tested and they found a mass on my right adrenal gland. So I had to have surgery in 2007, thinking it was going to help with PCOS, but it didn't. I got retested after the surgery that removed my right adrenal gland, but my levels were still abnormal over 400. During this time , I lost all of my hair ( I have been wearing wigs for 5 years), but I grew hair everywhere else.  For the past 5 years, I have to shave facial hair everyday. I have alot body hair, I haven't had a menstrual cycle in over 10 years, I can't have children, my voice has changed, all of these are symptoms of PCOS. So you know me being a woman didnt always feel good. I had to go the extra mile to feel BEAUTIFUL. The weight gain also has contributed to this. So the doctors' at Duke suggested the Gastric Bypass surgery. The doctors' at Duke If I lost a significant amount of weight, the PCOS would go away, also this was suggested in 2007 after Adrenal gland surgery. So, I was full of hope that I this was what I needed. I went to the Duke seminar and I wasn't prepared for all that came along with it. They wanted $250 for application fee, $300 for Psych visit, $250 pre-op visit, all of this was out-of-pocket, before my insurance would kick in. All of surgery, appointments etc, would have been covered under my insurance. But by Duke being a private-owned hospital they can charge however they wanted. Of course, this was discouraging, so I decided not to give up, so I researched other Hospitals under the Center of Excellence, I talked with a co-worker who went under the same process, he told me about ECU / Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville, NC and their Bariatric Surgery program. I started going to all my appointments in March 11 2009 did all my test in one day. Only one thing I had to work on was my blood sugar level was 12 n March WOW so I had to get that down to an 8 before the surgery. June 24 it was 7.6 PRAISE THE LORD. I met with my doctor June 25 09 n he said they are going to move forward to the insurance n get things going. On July 6 they CALLED ME N GAVE ME MY DATE AUGUST 14 09 THANK U JESUS!! So my mom, sister, neice(SUPPORT GROUP) and I met with the doctor July 30 so he could give us the run down on the surgery again. I started drinking OPTIFAST JULY 31. I am still hungry everyday. My sugar stay low now 56 60 67 scare me. SHH dont tell but I ate some yogurt n some greens so.
