Surgery less than 2 weeks away!

Feb 19, 2011

I can't believe it's finally going to happen.  I know plenty of folks have endured a much longer wait than I have but still, I feel like it was ages ago since I first approached my husband with the idea and nervously made an appointment with my family doctor to ask for a referral.

Yesterday I had my best friend come over for my "before" photo shoot.  We took several pics in different outfits and from different views: front, profile and back.  I also had her take my measurements so we can keep track of my progress.  I think the funniest pic is one I chose to do with a pair of jeans that won't zip.  I mean, it's not even close!   My thighs look like they're melted and poured into the legs and the zipper is gaping open!  One day I'll be wearing those jeans in a photo and later I'll have to discard them for a smaller pair.  That's going to be amazing!

Next on my agenda is to stock the freezer and pantry with easy-to-prepare foods for my kids so that while I'm recovering from surgery life will be manageable.  Of course, I'll be stocking lots of post-op liquids for myself, too.

Tomorrow I have my final pre-op appointment with the nurse practitioner at my surgeon's office then I'm attending the pre-op nutrition class and taking a test afterward.  Oh, and I have an evening appointment with a doctor who'll be giving me a cortisone shot for my carpal tunnel syndrome.  We're hoping that this will give me some relief for several weeks or so and perhaps with significant weight loss the problem will resolve itself.  For the past several weeks I've been waking up nightly with severe pain in my right wrist, radiating to my fingers.  It's really been taking its toll on my ability to get a decent night's sleep.  NSAIDs weren't helping and knowing that I wouldn't be able to take them anyway it was time to seek a solution.  The last thing I want to be dealing with while recovering from surgery is to wake up with the contracted, numb hand with the pain, etc.

My surgeon requires a 5-day liquid diet prior to surgery so that starts Friday.

In addition, inspired by another OH member, I've started looking into Overeaters Anonymous meetings in my area.  I think it might be a very positive addition to the monthly support group meetings sponsored by my surgeon's office.  I'd like to explore my behavior more deeply and have begun to read an OA book about working the 12 steps.

So, that's plenty to keep me busy, right?  Have a great week, everyone!

Deborah
