3 month check up
Aug 31, 2006
I’ve lost 68 pounds since my heaviest, 60 lbs since surgery so I guess I’m doing good. Met with the PA and all my blood tests look good. Keep up the good work. Don’t worry about that, I will. I met with the nutritionist. We now are supposed to eat between 1,000 and 1,200 calories per day and shouldn’t have more than 30 grams of fat a day. She says if I keep it at that, I don’t have to worry about the carbs. I sure don’t have to worry about sugars because anything over 5 grams makes me dump so I’m very leery of what I eat. This is good because I won’t be tempted since I know how bad I’ll feel (not quite true as you’ll hear later). I met with Andy the exercise guy. He asked what I was doing for exercise. I told him I ride my bike between 2 and 2 ½ miles every weekday, 5 miles on the weekend, I walk a mile a day with my dogs in the evening and strength train on my home gym 3 times a week. He was dumbfounded. He said this is usually what people do after he’s warned them to exercise the first time he sees them. He was very proud that I was doing it on my own. Hey, I want to get rid of the flab and hopefully tone up so I don’t have to do so much plastic surgery later (that’s expensive).
6 week check up

Met with Dr. Foote. He’s very pleased with my progress. No problems and really have no questions. I met with the nutritionist and got the menu for the next few weeks. Boy, we’ve added real meat and veggies. I thought peas were allowed last time but I find out that peas are a starch and should start now. Oh well. I was supposed to meet with the exercise physiologist but his wife had a baby and he was off on paternity leave. I’ll meet with him at my 3 month appointment. I did email him about getting a home exercise machine (Weider home gym) and got the ok to start using it.
3 week checkup

Met with the nutritionist in a group meeting. We got our food allowances for the next few weeks. Wow, I can have eggs, deli meats, and mashed potatoes. I’m on my way now, I won’t starve to death. Met with the PA, everything looked good. I had lost 25 lbs, woohoo! Tried a scrambled egg the next morning. I found out really quickly that if I ask myself if I want another bite, the answer is NO! That bite will not stay down. I really didn’t learn my lesson the first time because I did it the very next day and had the same problem. I don’t ask that question any more.
