I'm home

Aug 15, 2008

I'm on the road to recovery!  I had a few rough days, but i'm feeling a little better each day.  Just trying to sip my water throughout the day and focus on getting all my protein in (which is a lot harder than I thought).

I know this was the best decision I ever made.

Tomorrow is the big day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Aug 05, 2008

Well, it's finally here!  Thought i'd be scared or nervous at the very least, but NO WAY!!  Tomorrow is going to be a new beginning, and I can't wait.

Thank you, everyone, who supported me along the way

Pats on Monday

Jul 19, 2008

I can hardly believe the days are going so fast.  Monday July 21, my husband and I have our PATS and i'm soooooo excited.  LOL.....who knew I would ever look forward to being poked and prodded.

I'm counting the days down until August 6th.  This is going to be the rebirth of me.

Got A Date!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jun 09, 2008

Got a call from Barix this morning, and I finally got a date.  My surgery will be August 6, and my husband's will be August 20, with our PATS on July 21.

I'm so excited, and so thankful i've been given this opportunity to change my life

Approved!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

May 24, 2008

It's been a while since i posted, but I received my approval letter in the mail about a week ago.  I was beyond excited.  I immediately faxed it to Barix, and they called this past Thursday to say everything is in order, just waiting for the Dr. to sign off so they can schedule for PATS and a surgery date.

Look out new, healthier me......Here I come!

Confusion....UGH!!!!!

May 09, 2008

After waiting on pins and needles for at least a week, I discovered that there was a mix up with my weight history that was faxed to Barix for 2006.  My husband called our insurance to see if we had been approved yet, and come to find out, they didn't even have a case for me.  This was on a Friday, so I had to wait until Monday morning to call Barix and see what the heck was going on.  Apparently, the record my PCP faxed was incomplete and was missing my weight for 2006.

I frantically started calling the Dr. i was seeing at that time to straighten things out.  Thankfully, after 2 days of faxing I was able to get everything straightened out.  So, now I'm once again, waiting to hear I've been approved.

Thank you, Michael, my wonderful husband, who was patient and loving while I was having my nervous breakdown...LOL  He already has his approval and I'm so happy

We did it!

Apr 23, 2008

We finished up our 12-week course today.  I've lost a total of 36 pounds, and my husband lost 41 pounds.  We are so proud of ourselves and want to shout it from the rooftops!

Now, we wait to hear back from insurance and to get things moving.  I'm so excited!

3 More Days

Apr 20, 2008

I'm finally finishing up the 12-week program required by my insurance.  Wednesday is the final day.  I'm so excited to go see Katie (the nutritionist) at Barix and get weighed and measured one final time before everything is submitted to the insurance company for approval.

I'm amazed that I did so well with this, and so thankful that I was given the opportunity to take this program.  I feel it's given me a head start on learning how to eat after surgery, and prepared me for a lifelong journey to being healthy.

Beginning

Apr 02, 2008

My husband and I started this journey on January 24, 2008 when we had our initial consultation with Barix Clinic in Groveport, Ohio.

I knew the minute I walked through the front doors that this was where I was supposed to be.  Everyone was very friendly, positive and helpful.  I was impressed by how professional things were and relieved to see that they actually had oversize chairs that I could fit my big butt into comfortably.

We knew that our insurance required us to attend a 12 week behavior modifaction and restricted diet program in order to be eligable for coverage.  At the time, that seemed like such a long way off.  However, now that we are entering our 9th week, I am thankful that we have the opportunity to do this beforehand.  To date, I have lost a total of 30 lbs. and my husband has lost 35.

I thank god daily for giving me this opportunity to be a healthier me!

Health Issues

Mar 30, 2008

I knew I had to do something about my weight when I was put on medication for high blood pressure.  I'm only 34 and I don't want to die before I have a chance to really enjoy life with my kids and wonderful husband.  My mom passed away in 2006 from Congestive Heart Failure, and it scares me to think it can happen to me
