Hi!  My story is much like other "weight" stories I have read.  I have been fighting to lose weight for 50 yrs.  The best part of my story is that NOW I finally have the opportunity to win that battle thru wt. loss surgery.  I am >60 yrs old but I'm as thrilled about having lap gastric by-pass surgery as the next person!  There finally is a light at the end of the tunnel!
Growing up I was the pudgy kid of the family. YEP! And leave it up to brothers to keep reminding you how fat you really are!  I was dieting from around 11 yrs and up
My parents believed in eating everything on your plate, if you were full or not.  And, we were told that meat needed to have fat on it because fat was where the good flavor was, and that eating fat wouldn't harm us.  I cannot fault my parents for their efforts in providing food for our table.  It certainly can be very difficult to undo these lessons engrained in us as children.  Over many years I have been able to better understand what healthy eating is all about.  Despite that new lesson learned, the many diets I tried just failed.  I begin to think that my obesity problem was my own fault, that I would never be able to maintain a good weight for myself,  that I  would never have a life of quality, and, that I would have to accept of future life of depression and low self esteem.
Having done a great deal of research into weight loss surgery over several years, I finally decided to take the big step and have surgical intervention for my morbid obesity.  When I decided to that, I was finally covered by insurance for laproscopic gastric by-pass surgery.
Very soon I will have lap gastric by-pass surgery done.  I am excited but I am scared at the same time.  One slight obstacle for me is getting to support group meetings because of my work schedule, because of the round-trip distance I would have to drive, and, because I would have to drive alone at night.  I am hoping that I will be able to find persons who can offer me support online.  I am also hoping some persons might  be able to answer some questions that I will have regarding my lap gastric by-pass surgery.  I am hoping to get online support because I know I will need somebody to "talk" to, as I journey thru this weight loss surgery.           Golly5245
