2 Weeks Post OP and feeling great!
Sep 10, 2008
I've already noticed that my knees don't hurt as much.
I am getting my appetite back a little at a time. Since the kitchen is still being remodeled it's difficult to plan meals. We're eating out a lot but I try to pick places that I know I can get meat and veggies that are soft and can be chewed easily since I certainly don't want to get stuck.
We've been to Bandana's where I had BBQ pork, baked beans and green beans. All went down pretty well. We went to a local Pizza joint last night and they offer my favorite pizza in sandwich form so I ordered that without the bun. It's an italian sausage patty with pepperoni, ham, green olives, onions, green peppers and mushrooms covered in pizza sauce and cheese. I could only eat about a 1/4 of it but it sooo good. Guess I'll be having it for lunch a couple times the rest of the week.
I did try some tuna salad from the deli and it seemed to go down slow. I even tried adding some milk to it to moisten but it felt like it sat in my pouch all afternoon. Tuna might be one of those things that I can't eat - we'll see.
I've been trying to do a protien smoothie for breakfast most days but today I was running late so I ran to the local bagel shop and asked for a breakfast sandwich without the bagel. So it was scrambled egg, cheese and bacon. I'm learning lots of ways to get my protien at unconventional places
I think the hardest thing for servers to understand is that I don't want anything to drink. They probably ask me 3-4 times per meal. Funny!
I guess things are going pretty well. I'm down 31.5 lbs since I first started this journey so I'm very pleased.

1 week Post Op
Sep 03, 2008
I went today for my post op exam and everything is good. I get to start pureed food today - yea! I'm sick of drinking my meals. I was having a hard time with cold items causing gas - I had incredible chest pressure, like I had to burp but couldn't. Anyway I switched to hot tea, hot water and broth and felt a whole lot better. I wasn't getting very many nutrients though so I've been feeling tired.
I bought a Magic Bullet last night to puree foods so I made a smoothie this morning:
1/2 banana
5 frozen strawberries
Unjury Vanilla protien powder
1/2 c. orange juice
It was very yummy! I'll be having pureed Wendy's chili for lunch today. I'm so excited to actually "eat" something.
I go back in 5 weeks for my first fill and the office has warned me that I'll be hungry by then and may even gain a couple of pounds. That will be a bummer but at least I know what to expect. As of today I'm down 27 lbs!

I'm Home!

I had my surgery on 8/26/08 with no complications. I feel like I'm doing really well with minimal pain. I still need to work on getting those 64 oz. of water in daily but other than that, things are going great.
I am having a little problem with diarrhea but after talking to a nurse at my surgeon's office she reassured me that this is common - only liquid going in to only liquid coming out. I'll be getting some Imodium for this issue.
I haven't felt hungy all day and that is really unusual for me but I'll take it!
Gotta go get in a little walking around the house now.

I can't believe that I will actually be getting my band tomorrow. I've been doing research on WLS for about 4 years and now it's finally happening for me!
I'm scared - I'm not great at adjusting to change in my personal life so this will definitely be a challenge. I know I can do this - heck, I've been doing the preop diet with no problem so I guess I can do the rest. I know that my family has faith in me and are there to support me all along the way.
I'm excited for the changes that will happen. I can't wait to buy cute clothes, pretty lingerie, run and jump and play with my grandchildren and be a healthy wife, mother and grandmother for my family.
So the next time I write I'll be on the loser's bench!

Pre-op Diet II
Aug 16, 2008
I started the pre-op diet on Tuesday and for the most part everything has been going well. I must say that I'm not terribly fond of Carnation Instant Breakfast. I bought the already made chocolate flavor and it tastes okay if I don't smell it. It smells like vitamins and it's kind of gaggy. I bought some mint extract tonight hoping that will cover the smell.
I am craving more items to chew but I really haven't been hungry. I think I'll have break out the gum. Nine days to go!

Pre-op Diet
Aug 10, 2008
I went shopping today and got everything for my pre-op liquid diet. I'll start it on Tuesday. I don't think I'll have much trouble with it but it means my surgery isn't far off and I am getting anxious about that.
I can't wait to be on the other side of the bench!
I have a date!
Jul 28, 2008
Oh my, the nurse just called and I'm scheduled for August 26th. I can hardly believe that this is really happening!

I have been to the classes and done all the research and now waiting for insurance approval.
I just called the insurance company and they said "It's a go!". I'm so very excited and a teensy bit scared. I'm waiting for the surgeon's office to call back with a date. I hope they can get me in before my birthday in October - that would be such a great present!
