Re-Grouping

Jun 23, 2010

Since my surgery almost 2 years ago I had lost about 156 pounds. About five months ago my weight started creeping upwards on the scale instead of going down. Okay did some research and that is "normal" In five months time I gained 18 pounds. Normal or not I am not going to stand for it. I  have worked to hard to give up and let food take back over my life.

On Sunday the 20th of June I stepped on the scale and got angry. Kicked the scale, then went and crawled back into bed. I had gained back up to 181 pounds. That's it, enough is enough. I refuse to give into food again and let it ruin my life. I am taking back control.

I have stocked up on high protein, low fat, low calorie snacks, and am going to start keeping a food log again. When I weighed this mornign I weighed 176 which is A LOT better. I am  hoping this time next month to be down by ten pounds. I dont want miracles but it would be nice to wake up and it all be gone at once lol

So here I strike out on another adventure. to  lose what was once lost and hopefully never to find it again.

WARNING WARNING WARNING PLEASE READ

May 04, 2009

Anyone that has read my blogs knows that I had RNY on July of 08. My weight loss has been slower than what I expected but it is still going off. I am writing at this point to warn people of what happened to me.

We all know that if we were obese enough to have this surgery that most (maybe not all) had a food addiction. Well I gave up the food addiction and went back to smoking. My doctor had told me to quit and I did........2 weeks before surgery and for about 2 weeks after. To make a long story short, I almost died. Due to the smoking I developed a perferated ulcer and food and drink was oozing into my abdominal wall instead of going where it was suppose to. From what I was told by my daughter I was 6 - 8 hours from dying. I was extremely ill.

The doctor said that he had only seen this happen to people that smoked after having the bypass. Well I have now quit smoking for good. It is not worth risking my life for and darn sure not worth going through the emergency surgery and the pain and worry I caused not only myself but my family as well.

If you are going to have bypass and smoke you  need to make a commitment to stop. Not just during the healing period but permanently. It is not worth the pain and the medical problems it is going to cause.

On my follow-up appointment I asked the doctor what the chances of me developing another ulcer was and he said if I smoked 50/50 if I didn't then only about 1 %. I am stickin with the 1% chance and have no intentions of ever picking up a cigarette again.

I hope this information proves helpful.

6 Months Post OP

Feb 25, 2009

Okay that is how I am feeling at this point. I am a little over 6 months post-op and I have lost 104 pounds total. I have hit an almost 2 month plateau and cannot no matter what I do get past it. It is driving me NUTS (although some would say that is a short trip for me).
I am bouncing between 184 and 188 and cannot hit that 179 mark. I am twelve pounds away from my next goal and cant get past it.
I just said that huh. Oh well that is what frustration will do to you.
If anyone has any suggestions, pass them on cuz at this point, I am feeling like what I have went through was a waste of time and money.

First Goal Accomplished

Oct 04, 2008

YAY YAY HIP HIP HOOOORAAAYYYYY . It has been a long road but I have hit my first goal. My starting weight was 288 and I am now 224 as of this morning.

There for awhile during September I was not losing anything. I went about 2 1/2 weeks with no weight loss. I called the nutrionist and she said it sounded like I was not getting enough to drink. So I started forcing and I mean FORCING my liquids down. I am now up to about 65 - 90 ounces per day and I will not go to bed until I hit at least 60 ounces. It's hard for me because I was never much of a liquid drinker anyway but things are changing.

I have went from a size 30 pant and 4 XL top to a size 18/20 pant and the same in a top. My birthday is on November 12 and I am hoping to have hit onederland by then. That is my new goalto reach 199 by my birthday. I have not been under 200 in so long I cannot remember but I am sure it has been at least 20 years. So everyone keep me in your prayers. I need all the support and help that I can get.

God bless.

6 weeks post-op check

Sep 03, 2008

I had not planned to post for another month but I have to share this with everyone. I was so concerned about my post-op appointment because I felt that I was not losing fast enough. I have heard so many stories from everyone on here that they lost 30, 40, 50 pounds during the first 6 weeks. Congrats to them, but I didnt. Infact in the first 6 weeks I lost 34 pounds. How much was I suppose to lose, well the doctors office told me that only 10% of my pre-surgery weight was expected, which would have been 26.8 pounds. So I lost well above what was expected of me and I feel so much better about the whole situation.
Thanks everyone for the support and words of kindness, I appreciate everyone being here for me.
Take care and  God bless.

6 Weeks Post-Op plus a few days

Aug 31, 2008

Six weeks and a few days again. I cant seem to make it on here right on the button as far as exact days from the surgery, but I am trying.
Okay heres the lastest. I have lost a total of 33 pounds since surgery. With what everyone else tells me that is barely anything. I was reading one person's blog and they had lost that much in a 3 week period. I guess I am just slow. At least it is coming off. With the 33 post and the 20 pre that makes a grand total of 53 pounds. I think its great, but at the same time I wish it was more. I know I am being impatient. Didnt put it on over night, not going to take it off overnight but darnit I want too lol. So that is my update for my 6 weeks post op. I am 10 pounds away from my first goal of 225 so its getting closer. I cant wait to see that 199 on the scale. I think everyone will be able to hear me squeal no matter where they live.
I do have an exciting bit of news, I can now see my collar bone. I am excited about it, i know that sounds silly but it has been hiding for a long time. So that is a plus that I am enjoying.
I will post new pics soon.
Take care everyone and God bless.

Four Weeks Post-Op

Aug 19, 2008

4 weeks Post Op

Okay folks it has been 4 weeks since surgery. (plus two days) and I have lost 25 pounds since surgery on July 17 for a grand total weight loss of 46 pounds since April. I am pretty excited about that.  I feel like it is coming off slower than it should considering my lack of intake but at the same time. If it had not been for the surgery I would not have lost that much in 12 weeks let alone 4. I have to think positive. I weigh every day and sometimes it my only be 2/10 of a pound that is gone and other times it is a whole pound. I guess part of the variation is my body's way of ajusting.

I look forward to posting again in two weeks with a better total than what I have. My weight now is 242 and my goal is to be 225 by the time I hit 8 weeks post op. That is my first goal. I have decided to set little goals in order to get to my final goal. We will see how it goes.

Thanks everyone for the support. God bless.

It's Going So Slow

Aug 16, 2008

Before I had ths surgery I was so optimistic. I know I must just be impatient and I also know that part of it is my fault. But everyone told me how the weight would "fall off". Well its not falling off, its barely creeping off. Part of it is the fact that I cannot get a lot of fluid down. I am trying. I am up to about 20 - 30 ounces a day and that is if I push it reallllllllllly hard. I am barely eating anything. I can get down about 3/4 of a scrambled egg or about 3/4 of a piece of wheat toast with peanut butter. Sometimes I eat 1/2 a cup of cheerios with 2 % milk but I dont drink the milk. But that is basically my breakfast. Well we arent suppose to drink for 30 minutes after eating so there goes part of that. I set at a desk all day and it takes me about 2 hours to sip down 10 ounces of water. I have my co-workers at work reminding me that I need to be drinking because I dont think about it. I am not thirsty so I dont drink.

I know that if I would drink more then the weight would come off faster but I just cant seem to get more down. Does anyone have any suggestions????? I have tried drinking out of a cup, a glass, and even the water bottles. Nothing seems to be working for me. HELPPPP

I have lost 24 pounds since July 17 so I know that is faster than I would have lost it otherwise. Maybe I am being impatient. But EVERYONE told me how it would just fall off and it seems to be hanging on pretty darn tight at this point.

2 Weeks Post Op

Aug 12, 2008

Woohoo. I have survived two weeks of Gastric Bypass surgery. Now for the next 40 years lol. Seriously it has not been that bad. In the past two weeks I have lost 21 pounds. Needless to say I am thrilled about that. I of course, am still going through some adjustments. I have to make sure I take smaller bites, and dont eat fast. If you don't do those things then you create air pockets in your gastric pouch and it is PAINFUL. They warned me about it both pre-op and post-op but of course old habits die hard. They (meaning the doctors staff and him)had warned that if we didn't eat SLOW and take REALLLLLLLLY  small bites that there would be two things that happened. Air pockets would develop in the gastric pouch which are (as I said) painful, and you will throw up. To date I have had several periods of pain in the pouch but I have only thrown up once. And to be honest it was ALL my own fault. I was in a hurry, wolfed down lunch like I use to and IMMEDIATELY felt the pain and knew what was going to happen. Okay folks I have learned my lesson. Once is enough for me. You don't have to beat me over the head to get it through this thick skull. I got the message LOUD AND CLEAR. I will eat and drink slowly. I will take sips, not gulps, and I will take itty bitty bites. Don't need a repeat of what happened. I am convinced that the medical staff knows a bit more about it than I do lol. (Imagine that)

I have not had to have pain medication from the surgery since the day after the surgery. It all went well and I am happy to report that I was able to go back to work 12 days post-op. That will be different depending on the type of job that you have. I work at a desk and there is no lifting involved so it's easy for me to sit and do the things I need to. When considering time off from work for this surgery please remember that everyones body is different and reacts differently to the same circumstance. Where I was up and walking around the night of my surgery there was a lady in the room next to mine at the hospital that had the same thing the day before I did and was still not out of bed. Again every body is different. Plus I think it is mind over matter. I refuse to give into pain. Ask my primary doctor he will back me up on that.

I have severe arthritis in pretty much every joint in my body. I decided to get this operation after many of conversations with him. This is not something to do on a spur of the moment. It is something that requires a lot of thought and preperation. Depending on your insurance it may take as little as a three month prep or as long as a nine month prep. Some insurances require that you lose a certain amout of weight before approving you for surgery to show that you are commited to it. Unfortunately there are some insurances that wont pay for it at all. To find out ask your insurance company.

I sincerely hope that this helps whoever reads it make a descision regarding weight loss surgery. I know that in the two weeks since I have had it I have been thrilled with the results. If you have any questions please dont hesitate to ask.

Be blessed. Thank you for reading

9 Days Post - Op

Aug 12, 2008

I am so excited. I am feeling really well after surgery on the 17th and I have lost a total of 16 pounds since surgery. That to me is amazing. That means on average I am losing a little more than a pound a day.  I have to weigh every day and it is something; for once in my life I am enjoying stepping on the scale. I am already eating solid food and have even went out to dinner with family. My granddaughter (who is 3) and I split a kids chicken strip dinner last night and she actually ate more than I did lol. I had half a chicken strip and 2 steak fries. (big french fries) I was full. I couldn't have eaten another bite if I wanted to. It is even getting to the point where I have to remind myself to eat. I am not constantly starving, and there is not insatiable hunger anymore. I am still a bit tender in the tummy area but since it has only been 9 days since surgery that is to be expected. I cant go swimming yet and I miss that but I am walkin around really good. Have made a few trips to walmart, but I do tend to tire easy. I havent had to have pain medication since the day after the surgery which is something else I feel is totally awesome. So all in all I am feeling good. Again Thanks for reading. I hope that this helps someone with their decision to have weight loss surgery.
