New Year New Life

Jun 09, 2013

I needed this surgery to save my life.  My initial weight was 272#.  I was out of shape, and felt lousy all the time.  I was a type II diabetic on insulin 2X a day and have lupus.  My joints, especially my knees hurt all the time.  I had a difficult time walking or standing because of the incredible amount of belly fat I carried around.  I couldn't make it up the stairs to go to bed at night without gasping for breath.  I loved to garden but couldn't do it any more and I watched my beautiful yard turn to weeds.  I knew I had to do something or I would die an early death.  Having this surgery is one of the best things I have ever done.  I am 4.5 months post-surgery and have lost 77#!  I feel AMAZING!  I've gone from barely waddling across the room to walking 3 miles in an hour 5X a week.  I am even starting to see curves again!  The best part about all this is I've gone from not being able to control my blood sugar and taking 45-50 units of insulin twice daily to normal levels and no insulin.  Pre-surgery it was estimated I would lose 129# in a year.  I have already surpassed half of that and have confidence I will achieve my goal of 120#.  I'm setting small achievable goals for myself so I don't become overwhelmed.  I pray for strength and courage every day to continue my weight loss journey.  Oh, and I'm gardening again and loving it!
