I have always been overweight.  I was large even before high school.  My weight slowly increased.  Both of my parents were diabetic and died from complications from diabetes.  After I got married and had 4 kids of my own, I started realizing that I couldn't do much stuff with them (my boys are into scouting).  It became difficult for me to do all the walking associated with going to amusement parks and to the zoo.  Because of that plus I'm now a diabetic, I started considering WLS.  I wanted to be able to enjoy my kids growing up and didn't want to be a burden on them later on .  I think that the WLS is the best thing I have ever done for myself.
