I finally decided it was time to tell my story.  I have been overweight most of my life about the age of 17 I gained 100lbs in a year and was told that wasn't possible but the scale didn't lie and it was possible.  I went on to get married to the love of my life and my best friend and together we created two wonderful sons.  They are both older now so I decided it was my turn.

Two years ago I went on vacation and got sick, ended up in the hospital for a month, at that time doctors talked to me about gastric bypass but I wasn't ready.  Now, two years later I finally am.

I spent months researching procedures, restrictions and complications and in November of 2013 I went to my family doctor and asked for a referral.  I was going to be through HRRH so after a couple weeks I called and was given an orientation date for 2 days later.  My journey had begun.  I got the call in January to meet my surgeon, Dr Sohi.  I was nervous and excited at the same time.  By this time my weight had ballooned up to 433lbs and I was not very mobile.  Dr. Sohi told me that my BMI was too high for surgery and I was devastated but knew it was all my fault.  I left the office with alot to think about.  That night I made the decision to start losing weight the very next morning.

I joined myfitnesspal and didn't look back.  When I went in for my nurse, dietitcian and social worker appointment they were all happy with my progress and I was cleared by Dr. Glazer but Dr. Sohi wasn't convinced I had lost enough weight and it didn't matter because it was only April 2014 and they were looking at booking surgeries for September but Dr. Sohi wanted to check my loss again in 6 weeks so at the end of May I went back to his office, I had lost more and they had the summer schedule so I was able to get my date.  It was 10 weeks away and I had to go on Opti for 4 weeks.  I ate as best I could with a Canada Day party thrown in and didn't lose anything for the 2 weeks before Opti but I had lost 76lbs up to then.  I started Opti and I actually liked it and found it easy to follow.  I never cheated one day although I craved cheeseburgers like crazy and don't eat them often anyway so it was a weird choice of things for me to want.  I went on to lose 32lbs those 4 weeks for a total of 108lbs going into surgery weighing 325lbs.

I know I have a long way to go and I am ready for this journey but scared at the same time.  My surgery was August 8, 2014, it went well and I am home recovering now.  Only a couple people know I did this but feel that I don't want to hide it I just didn't want to hear their negative thoughts before so I decided not to share.  Now, I have to share with them as telling lies or misleading them is not what I want especially when some of them have weight issues themselves I need to be fair and honest with them.

I am excited to have joined this community as I have been lurking for months now going through the process and did have questions but wasn't ready to share my story.  I look forward to all the support that I have seen on here over the months and in finding myself along the way.
