November 27th-5 Weeks Out
Nov 27, 2006
Well, I'm five weeks post op and I've lost 30lbs + 10 before surgery for a total of 40lbs. I feel back to "normal" (whatever that is at this stage) after being in the hospital last week and I'm back on soft foods with no problems...whew! I feel really good with my strength improving everyday...still have problems with my feet hurting, so yesterday I invested in some New Balance shoes just for me. (It's hard to put myself first sometimes and do things for me but I'm workin on it!) My DH & children are noticing the changes in me and in fact, my husband and I went shopping at Becca's (my 17 year old) work on Friday (Sears) and she told me how great I looked and that she can really see how much I've changed in this short amount of time...It made my day! I'm still tryin new protien drinks & bars and today I tried the triple choc Power Crunch Bar (although I only ate 1/2) and it was pretty darn good for a quick breakfast. My DH is so supportive and he's agreed to eat whatever I need to. So we've made soup, mock manocotti, burritos (which I just ate some beans and meat of) and quiche...and my family has eatin it all. I'm looking forward to tryin new things as this is such a new adventure! TTFN.

Well I'm back at home after a 4 day stay at Chapman Med Cntr. On Friday night, I ate mashed potatoes with ground cornish game hen at my mom's and got a terrible heartburn/stabbing feeling in my chest and thought if I waited, it would go away (as this had happened when I ate the first few bites of most of my soft foods over the last week)...but no luck and I ended up throwing up...but blood came up...I was shocked. Then, when I threw up again, there was a ton of bright red blood and a hard dark red mass "thingy"....Paged my Doc and headed to the ER. They put in an IV, took blood and was monitored all night. My doc came in Sat morning and ordered and Endoscopy as the blood was definitely "not normal". Sunday am, had the scope and they found a tear in my esophagus and a stricture where the esophagus attaches to my new pouch. They surmise the tear is from the trauma of the getting sick, which then started bleeding, which is extremely rare (yeah, I'm one in a million). To fix it, they inserted a shot of ephinephrin into the tear to prevent it from actin up and then to fix the stricture, they used 3 different sized balloons to enlarge the opening from 9mm to 12 1/2mm. It's been an amazing few days but I'm home and I'll be on liquids for this week again before I get to go back to soft foods. Which is ok with me since the back of my throat is so sore and only warm liquids feel good anyway. Well, I'll check in soon...K

I'm so glad I found this site...the information and insight I've gained is invaluable and reading other peoples stories has been so encouraging...then I found BariatricEating.com and ordered a bunch of new things...I'm so excited. No buyers remorse here! It's been 3 weeks and I've broken my plateau...I got down to -20 lb and then went up to -17, -18 all last week and according to many who had the surgery around my same time...this is normal...now as of today I've lost 21.5 lbs. since my surgery (+10lb the 2wks before for a total of 31.5lb). I'm feeling great but had my first problem with my food not stayin down last night...I tried poached chicken in a marinara sauce and after only a couple of bites I got that horrible feeling of something stuck (like heartburn but worse) and knew it wasn't stayin down....didn't eat anything else for dinner, just drank a pumpkin nog instead. I guess it's too early for that but I'd had little bits of chicken in soup so I thought I was "ok"....silly me. I'm still struggling with water and protien (been a little better averaging 45-50 oz of water and 45-50 gr of protien). Since I started using Fitday.com a few days ago it has helped me know for sure how much protien I'm consuming and again, I'm so thankful I found this site. I'm taking my vitamins and still on bp meds and my energy level is increasing and I'm walking on my treadmill everyday....life is gettin better!

It's been 2 weeks today...I'm down 20 lbs + 10 before surgery so I've lost 30 in a month...what a great start for me. I'm walking everyday on my treadmill...shopping (which I hadn't done in months as I'd have my husband or my daughter do all the grocery shopping and other shopping cuz it was just too much for my energy level) and doing more than I've done in months. I'm feeling great...my incisions are healing well and so far, I've tolerated everything pretty good! My issues are with wanting to eat...watching others eat and knowing it must taste good...it's pretty hard just being on liquids but I'm doing it! I'm getting in about 40-50 ounces of fluid a day and of that I'm averaging about 25-35 grams of protien. I'm not hungry and pushing all that fluid is tougher than I thought as I used to drink 32 oz of water in a sitting...I'll keep tryin!
