Day 3...Home

Nov 26, 2008

Well I made it thru the surgery and home.  Surgery went off without a hitch...pretty much just like everyone else that has had RNY.  Hospital (Clarian North) was superb....nursing staff....GREAT.  No complaints.  Last night I was a little restless..couldn't get comfy...moved all night from my bed to the recliner.  I have one incision that is quite large...due to having my gallbladder and LARGE stone the size of a golf ball removed.  I knew I had a "stone"...but geesh....not that big.  Dr. E said several times...WOW I couldn't believe how huge that thing was!!

Thanks to Brandy in TX for some pointers...I was sent home from the hospital with 2 binders...I RECOMMEND ONE FOR EVERYONE HAVING SURGERY.  The binder kind of holds everything in place.  Definetly a BIG help.  Warm tea....very soothing.  Liquid tylenol....much better than the narcotic liquid that the Doc sent me home on.  I feel great except for a little burning/pulling in the BIG incision.  I'm actually very surprised that I feel this good.  No nausea.  The medication/drinking routine is a full-time job!  I'm going to try and make a little something for my girls to take with them to the dinners that they have been invited to.   I hope everyone has a Happy Turkey Day!

Tomorrow is the BIG day!

Nov 23, 2008

I'm ready!  I have to be at the hospital at 10am for surgery at noon.  The past two days of clear liquids went well....with one exception.  A Taco Bell commercial for their new fully loaded nachos.  Damn them.  I love nachos.   I'm mentally ready for this...ready to make a change in my life.  For better health and for a better quality of life.  I miss the old me and the things that I used to do.  Thanks to my OH BFF Brandy in Texas.....Love ya girl.

Pre-Surg Class

Nov 18, 2008

It was a loooong day at the bariatric center.  I went for my pre-surg instruction class yesterday.  Two hours of nutritional info followed by 2 hours with a nurse that works on the bariatric unit at the hospital.  My worst nightmare was confirmed.....I will come home from the hospital with a prescription for syringes and a blood thinner!!!!!!!!!!  I HAVE A NEEDLE PHOBIA.   I'm about to break out in hives just thinking about it!!!  My poor 18 yr old daughter is going to have to attempt to give me the shots.  She is in her first year of nursing school but has not given any shots yet!  Oy!  I start my clear liquids on Saturday morning........more to come.

Pre-OP DONE!!!!

Nov 05, 2008

Well....I went for my pre-op this morning.  It wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be.  Started off with blood draw...a gallbladder/liver ultrasound...then off for the upper GI.  WOW....was that an experience!  Wretched stuff that they make you swallow while laying in varoius positions.  Followed by a pulmonary function test- which consisted of breathing into a mouth piece for 25 mins.  Then I had an EKG and a consult with the DR.  Who informed me that I have several gall stones, a small hiatal hernia and I'm now officially diabetic!!!!  Geez...anything else?   He said they would take my gallbladder out during my surgery, fix the hernia and the diabetes should cure itself with weight loss.  C'mon Nov 24th!!!!!

Waiting.....

Sep 15, 2008

all is well....just waiting for the BIG DAY.  I've been visiting this site everyday to follow other people's journeys.  I've picked up quite a few helpful hints and recipes.  I started replacing my breakfast with a protein shake.  Not too bad- the Unjury Choc tastes pretty good.  I've tried a few other brands and have found that Unjury is the best so far.  Pre-op is Nov 4.  I'm anxious to find out when I have to start the liquid diet!!

NOV 24th...r u serious?

Jul 21, 2008

So....the DR's office just called with my surgery date...NOVEMBER 24!  WHAT??????  That's 4 mos away???  Say what?  My DR only does surgery on Mondays????

Are you serious???

Jul 17, 2008

So my head is still spinning from the good news that I'm approved.  I called my Dr's office....because I was wondering why they have not called me to give me a surgery date....and they say...."oh, we only do scheduling on MONDAYS"....."we'll call you in the next few weeks on a Monday".....ARE YOU SERIOUS???  I wanted to say...how freakin hard is it to open the book and give me a date????????....argh....

I'M APPROVED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jul 15, 2008

So much for my earlier post!  I'm sitting at my desk at work and my phone rings...I'm contemplating answering it....I answer and it's the ins co.  Congratulations!  You're approved!!!!!!!!

I can't believe it.  I went to the seminar on 3/20, met the Dr on 4/28 and had a few follow ups.  WOW...this all happened so fast!  My ins doesn't require any waiting period or supervised weight loss.  Everyday I get blessed....WOW!!!  I'm so relieved.  Lots of phone calls to make.....

Still Waiting...

Jul 15, 2008

....and waiting....so I call my ins company and they say that they are waiting for a form they faxed to the DR last week.  I call the DR's office and they say "what form?".  After 30 mins of explanation they say, "oh, that form!"  ARGHHH....so now the ins co has the form and I'm waiting for a nurse to review it.....tick...tock...

Waiting.....

Jul 08, 2008

I am anxious to get THIS started!  I was told by my Dr's office that my procedure was already approved but they had to formally submit the request and get the approval in writting.  Tick....tock.....ok...it's only been 3 days...I'm impatient.  I have been reading too many blogs and looking at too many websites...now I'm nervous.  I stumbled onto the MEMORIALS section here on OH.  YIKES!!!  Been thinking about the entries all night.  What a horrible fate for those folks listed.  AND....my DOC never mentioned a pre-surgery diet??  What the heck?
