Trip to London

Oct 27, 2008

My husband and I (no kids) took a trip to London this past weekend to see our San Diego Chargers play the New Orleans Saints. The Chargers lost but we still had a great weekend.
The morning we left I weighed in and lost about 3.5 pounds in one week. Wow, that is the biggest loss I have seen in one week in a loooong time.  I even took a shower then got back on just to see the number again and it still said 173.5. I was so excited, especially because I knew we were just about to leave on a trip where I would not be going to the gym and eating out a lot.
Well I weighed myself this morning and it still said 173.5 so I didn't gain..Yay!
We had a great time. Friday we arrived in London around noon. Bought our tube passes for the weekend then headed to our hotel outside the city. We stopped at a little grocery store and bought fresh fruit, wraps and some drinks to eat at the hotel. (this grocery store saved us some money by being so close to the hotel)
We checked in, ate, freshened up then headed back to the tube and decided to stop at the Notting Hill Gate stop. We found lots of little shops and a starbucks and the restaurant where we ate dinner.  When Brian and I were stationed in England from 1999-2002 we fell in love with Pizza Express. We love their pizza and their chicken salad with goat cheese. They have this awesome ceasar dressing that we used to buy when we lived there. They said that they now sell it at Tesco (grocery store) but we couldn't find it there. We really couldn't find a large Tesco because the ones in the city are small more condensed versions of the real super store.  Anyways no taking any dressing home for us.  At least we got to eat there and it was just as yummy as we remembered it.  It was cheaper this time though because we shared the pizza and salad where as before we both would get a salad and a pizza.
After dinner my tummy was feeling funny (gotta love post surgery meals out) We headed back to our hotel and watched some t.v. It was so relaxing.
The next morning we got up early, headed to the grocery store for more fruit for breakfast. Then we took the tube to Victoria station. We headed for the theater playing Wicked and stood in line for over an hour. It paid off because we got front row seats to the afternoon show. The show was awesome. So good. I was in love.  I could see everything, even the spit coming out of their mouths when they sung. It was cool.
The rest of saturday we walked and walked and walked around London. It was cool.  We ate lunch at a little fish and chips shop. The fish and chips were so good and didn't hurt my stomach. I was so nervous about eating so much fried food but I had to have some.  I of course couldn't eat it all but it was so fresh and good.
That evening we headed to the area that has the London Eye. We were standing on the river at sunset. We didn't go on the eye because the line was so long. But we watched street performers and took some pictures. Then we ate dinner at a Sushi restaurant. I had some awesome miso soup.  After that we headed back to the hotel to turn in.
The next morning we ate breakfast at the hotel. It was rainy and we wanted something hot.  Then we donned all our Chargers gear and headed to Wembley to get our tickets.  When we got there they gave us free tailgate tickets. We then headed to the gift shop, bought some souveniers and then headed to the tailgate party.  The tailgate party was okay, we ate, got wet, watched the show.  The party had a marti gras theme for the saints.  Friends of ours won an awesome helmet signed by the whole team there.  The game was good. I had never seen a live football game and found it harder to follow.  We had pretty good seats.  It was a good game and the Chargers only lost by 5.  After the game it was a madhouse of people. 80,000 people all rushing for 3 train stations....yikes.
We got back to the hotel and went to bed then left for the airport the next morning.
It was a nice trip. Now back to working out and trying to lose these last 30 something pounds.

So Slow

Oct 13, 2008

I didn't lose anything last week. I am still hanging on at 179.  This is sad because I know I am working out really hard at the gym.  I know I have lost inches at the gym though because I did go down a size and am a 14.  I don't think I am ready to be trying on 12's yet.
My Grandma mailed me my wedding dress.  My 10 year anniversary is coming up in January and my wedding dress is a 14 so I wanted to see if it would fit. I think I weighed about 160 when I got married but I tried on the dress anyways.  It zipped up but was a little tight around the rib cage.  It was so cool to be able to wear it again.  I have steadily gained weight since my marriage almost 10 years ago and NEVER got back down to a 14 until now.
I ran out of the protein powder that I loved so I thought I would try the one they have at the commissary.  I don't think I like it.  I was so used to the creamy vanilla flavor of the 0 carb isopure but this new one is french vanilla and the flavor is really overpowering and doesn't have as much protein per scoop so I have to use more to get a good amount of protein in my shake.  I guess I will have to break down and order another can of the good stuff online.
I have a few friends who are trying their best to get approved for the surgery right now.  My base is really cracking down on approving anyone.  I thought it was bad when it took me 7 months to get approved. I did everything by the book and was finally approved.  My poor friends are trying to do everything asked of them but they base keeps changing the requirements.  It's frusterating because some places require 1 year of monitoring to be approved and some places don't require you to do anything at all to get approved.  Here they have a 12 week nutrition class you have to take but they require you lose a certain amount of weight in the class to be considered for surgery.  I don't think it's fair to put a number on people. Everyone is different.  I was able to lose the 10 pounds that they required but some people aren't.  I start to feel bad for my friends that I got the surgery and they are having so much trouble getting it but then I need to re-read these blogs and think of everything I went through and how hard I worked to get to this point.  I continue to work hard every day at the gym and at home.  I still struggle with what I put into my mouth.  The holidays are coming up and everyone is making cupcakes and cookies and all these yummy treats.  My head still wants to eat all these things and it's really hard to say no sometimes.  I am still not going back to my bad soda habit. It was the one thing I over did before surgery.
I guess I expected everyone to be happy for me in my weight loss but sometimes that is not exactly the reaction that I get.

170's Whoo Hooo

Oct 05, 2008

So the scale this morning said 179. Whoo Hooo. I know it's barely in the 170's but it was so nice to see. It seems like I have been stuck in the 180's forever. I was starting to think that maybe this was going to be my ideal weight and that wasn't good enough for me.  I mentally don't want to be anywhere near 200 lbs.
I am still working out 5 times a week doing all sorts of different excersises. I would really love to hire a trainer come the first of the year.  I am doing okay now on my own but having a trainer design a workout for me would be nice.  I am waiting until the first of the year so that I have some money to hire a trainer.
I am still drinking a protein shake every morning.  My favorite shake and the only shake I drink is
1 packet of chocolate no sugar added carnation instant breakfast
1.5 scoops of Zero Carb Isopure, Creamy Vanilla Protein Powder
4 oz 1% milk
4 oz water
A few ice cubes
whiz it all together with my hand held blender
This shake is good and tastes just like chocolate milk or a choc milkshake. I cannot taste the protein powder at all
I am very close to being done with the huge canister of protein powder that I ordered off the internet.  I think I am going to try the one they have at the commissary next. I hope I like it because the Isopure is good but I don't want to order anything off the internet right now.
I don't think I have any loyal blog readers but if I do Drugstore.com is a great place to order just about anything. They have GNC products and protein powders and vitamins plus my face wash that I can't find here anymore.
I hope October is a better month for me. I really want to be close to 160 by the end of it.
I go see Prof Weiner Nov 17 and I need to be much lower then this.

A Plateau

Sep 21, 2008

So I haven't blogged in a while because for the last month I have been on one major stall.  I keep losing and regaining the same 2 pounds.  I am stuck at 185 but sometimes the scale will get down to 183.  I am back to drinking 1 protein shake a day in replacement of breakfast to try to up my protein and help kickstart some weight loss.  Over the last 3 weeks I have really increased my exercise level.  I am working out at least 5 times a week.  2-3 times a week I take a step class or a body sculpting class, I have even started yoga.  The other days during the week I try and exercise for 45 min on machines like the tredmill or the eliptical.  I know I am working hard because my body is feeling the soreness the next day.  Everyone keeps telling me that muscle weighs more then fat and I understand that but the scale really can start moving anyways..... REALLY.
I have been eating pretty good. My favorite thing right now are these foil fish packets that I make and my hubby puts on the bbq.  I use talapia and season it really well then squeeze lemon juice on it then I throw in a bunch of veggies like zuchini, fresh green beans, baby carrots and artichokes. Then I top it with bruchetta or pesto. They only take 15-20 min on the grill and they are soooooo good. I split one packet into two meals.  I have been making extra because the leftovers are a great quick meal.
My husband has been trying to eat well and work out with me and he has lost 13 pounds. I just hope I can encourage him to keep it up.

3 Month Appointment

Aug 26, 2008

I saw Prof Weiner yesterday for my 3 month appointment.
It was kinda annoying that I sat in the waiting room for 2 hours. I thought they were just being a typical German Hospital making me wait but I finally went up to the counter and asked about it and the lady found my chart tucked away in a folder (I think they forgot about me) Anyways I was rushed in to see the doc and didn't even have time to fill out the tricare form and the survey.
The visit went fine. I took him my labwork. My protein is a little low, My Iron is good and the ultrasound showed that my liver is a normal size now.....no more fatty liver for me.
I weighed in at 85.1 Kilo which is roughly 187 pounds.  He thinks I should be about 74 kilo next time I see him....or around 150..... Such pressure, that's only 3 months away but wouldn't it be cool if I did it.

Posted some pics

Aug 12, 2008

I finally posted some new pics. They are 2.5 months out and a few from our trip home to S.D.
I am 189 pounds which is 61 pounds lost from my highest last September and 36 pounds lost since surgery almost 3 months ago.
I went to see my doc the other day. It's a new doctor that I had never seen. My pcm, the one who saw me through all this moved this summer.  Anyways I had not been taking my blood pressure meds because they were in the lost luggage so I made an appt to see him to ask to stay off of them. My blood pressure was 109/72.....wow. I have never seen it so low.  Anyways he said after a urine test to see how my kidney function is he doesn't see any problem in me stopping taking the meds.  Yay!  Take 1 medication away and add a butt load of vitamins.....heehee

We got our luggage back.

Aug 09, 2008

Well I thought I would quickly post something.  5 days ago we got our luggage back. ....Yay.  We were on the phone off and on the night before trying to get some info.  Someone told my husband to call back the next day when a certain person handling the situation would be back in.  I didn't really like that answer so I had my hubby call back again and someone said they thought the luggage was at Andrews AFB so my hubby called them and they confirmed it and said the luggage would be in Germany the next day.... and it was.
I am very happy to have my luggage back, everything was in order and nothing was missing.  I would love to wear some of my new clothes that I bought in the states but we have crappy weather here in Germany so all those summer clothes will probably go to waste.
While we were up at Ramstein picking up the luggage we stopped by their huge BX and I tried on some DKNY jeans and a 14 fit quite nicely.  I didn't buy any because they are $36 and the jeans were too long.  I don't know why in some brands I wear an average length and some brands I need the short/petite length. It's annoying.
I haven't had the chance to take any more pics of myself because my husband has been working. Hopefully I will get that done in the next couple of days.
I have lost a couple more pounds and am weighing in at 191.  Just 41 more pounds to go until I have lost 100 pounds from my highest.

It's been a while

Aug 02, 2008

So I realized that I have not updated my blog in a while.  We took a quick and unplanned trip to the states. I hadn't been home in 15 months and I was really itching for some California family, weather, shopping and food.  The trip was short but fun.  I decided to try military hopping and it was an adventure.  I got out on my second attempt.  My husband was working that day so he was able to meet me at the plane and help me strap in the kids, then he left to go launch the plane.  We actually left on my son's birthday so he got to go up to the flight deck and meet the pilots, he had fun.  The flight took us to Dover Deleware where we were supposed to have an 18 hour layover.  I had people helping right and left, it was very nice.  Our friends husband took me to lodging where I was able to get a room on base for the night.  When the kids and I were walking the 3 blocks to the room someone stopped and offered a ride.  The room was nice on base and had wireless so I was internet connected.  The next morning I got up very early, I had already arranged a taxi to take me to the terminal but when I called the terminal to make sure everything was a go for my flight, I found out that the flight to california had been delayed until the evening.  This is where everything got interesting. I didn't want to sit all day with my kids in the terminal and they couldn't verify that I would still be able to get on the flight.  See sometimes the mission number changes if a flight has been on the ground too long and if it changed then I wouldn't be able to get on.....I know I am rambling here, well anyways in the long run I decided to book tickets to San Diego from Philly. I really wanted to be home that night and not have to worry. So off me and the kiddo's went and we were home late that evening.
The trip was great.  I lost weight.  I arrived there wearing my size 20 capri pants that were falling off of me.  My mom kept telling me that my butt was sagging.  The first day there we went shopping at Mervyn's and Target where I bought size 16 in the misses department.  I couldn't believe it. I thought I was a size 18 but I fit perfectly into size 16. It was really cool....no more plus size department for me.  I didn't buy a lot of clothing because I know that would be stupid since I am going to be losing more weight.  But I needed some things to wear so I bought a couple shirts, shorts and capri's.
Everyone at home thought that I looked really good.  I was able to eat at all my favorite places but not very much food.  I took a lot of leftovers home to offer to my family. My favorite part of eating at home was all the fresh fish and veggies, I was always ordering fish or shrimp and steamed veggies. Everything was soooo yummy and everywhere had iced tea.  I carried around splenda packets with me so that I could always have my splenda iced tea that I love.
My husband arrived about a week after me, he stayed in Cali for about a week then we all hopped home together. I needed him to hop home with me so that I would have a better chance of getting on the flight.
We took the kids to Sea World (where I got burned)  we got free tickets from the Here's the to Heroes promotion that they have had going on for several years now.  We took the kids to the beach, shopping, out to eat, swimming at my grandparents house.  We had a lot of fun but the week went by fast.  My best friend and I even took my husband to bingo at an Indian Reservation and he won $500.  Good thing because we needed money to make up for all we were spending.
The trip home was fine. We ended up driving 8 hours to Northern Cali to Travis AFB where we used to be stationed.  We got right on a flight heading for Andrews AFB but the plane broke the first day so we ended up taking the flight the next day.  We took a flight to Andrews AFB then took a taxi to Baltimore Airport and got on the miltary rotator flight to Ramstein. It all went pretty easy but one thing did happen.  The military at Travis AFB was checking in a flight to Japan when they started checking in our flight to Andrews and ended up sending our luggage to Japan.  All my new clothes, my kids clothes, my husbands clothes, my makeup, toilettries, camera and other much needed things like my vitamins were all in there.  We have no idea when we will get our luggage back and I am so bummed because all I have to wear is 1 pair of pants.
Anyways, it's really good to be home.  My weight loss is still going slow on the scale but I have already dropped from a size 22 to a size 16 and I can really see the difference.  I weigh 193 now and It is sooooooo nice to be under 200.  I started at my highest of 250 and was 225 when going in for surgery.  I go see prof Weiner in a month and I want to lose a little more before then.  I didn't exercise when I was home so I need to get back on it, it was really helping me before I left.  I will post my two month pics when I get my camera back..... whenever that may be.

1 month checkup

Jun 27, 2008

I saw Dr Weiner today for my official one month checkup.  Everything went fine. He seemed kinda irked that my clinic is being so stupid about writing me prescriptions and not taking out my staples but he wrote me a prescription and told me he would take care of giving me B12 shots every 3 months if they continue to give me problems. He is such a funny man, I asked if it was okay that I was starting to exercise and he said yes no problem just no body building or bungee jumping...... I said "DARN"
I lost 10kilo or 21 pounds and he said that was fine.  I am happy with that amount and I hope that I continue to lose.  He told me that I can only eat 3 times a day but I can be on normal food... Which I have pretty much already been doing recently. 3 times a day is hard though because I get hungry but I will do it. Oh yeah and the ultrasound was fine too I guess.   That was pretty much it.  Long drive.....short appointment.

update

Jun 25, 2008

So I haven't been able to weigh myself in 3 days because I was becoming obsessed and had my husband put the scale where I couldn't reach it.  I hope when I weigh myself tomorrow morning I see some dropped pounds.  It was becoming so frusterating to see the scale move up and down.  I only have 8 more pounds until I am under 200 and I want to see that number so badly.  Not that I think I will have lost 8 pounds in 4 days but a few pounds closer would be nice.
I still keep wondering why the weight loss is going so slow for me.  I know I eat better when I am home but I think I eat more often.  I am trying to make my snacks high in protein and healthy but I know frequent snacking is not good. So this makes me wonder again how many times a day am I supposed to be eating?  3? 5?  I don't know.  Time for more research I guess. I am trying my best to get in a 30 min workout every day.
I go for my 1 month checkup tomorrow. No big deal, hopefully they will be satisfied with my weight loss and I get to broach the subject of them having to write every prescription that I could possibly need.
