Hi everyone!  It's been a long time but a lot has happened since I've logged in last and I wanted to share what has happened in my life.  I had my surgery in 2006, lost 140 pounds and then had the extra skin from my stomach removed before I could "see" the weight loss.  I started out with diabetes, sleep apnea, polycystic ovarian disease (PCOS) which meant no ovulation,asthma, I couldn't walk more than a block or up a flight of stairs without being out of breath, arthritis, depression, not to mention a host of other problems that I needed to be medicated for because of being obese.  After the weight loss, ALL of the co-morbidities are gone!!!  YES ALL of them are GONE!  When Dr. VerSteeg said I'd feel much better, I took what he said with a grain of salt, sure I thought I'll feel better.  But I never dreamed I'd be able to walk miles without taking a break, or be able to get rid of ALL of the medications for diabetes, depression, asthma, PCOS, and I wouldn't have to wear that stupid breathing machine for sleep apnea anymore.  Oh yeah, and my family says I don't even snore any more!

Now I got a phone call from Kathy S. today and it sounds like the Govenor of Iowa wants to end medicaid's paying for the weightloss surgery.  This is a tragedy and I hope each and everyone of you is as outraged at reading this as I was when I heard it.  This surgery saved my life.  It made my life livable and I don't have to hide my head anymore in shame.  I am not trying to make anyone feel bad who hasn't had the surgery yet, as these were my issues and each of us walks our own path and my problems are mine alone.  I do not believe all people who are overweight feel the same, I am only sharing my thoughts and feelings.

My main purpose for writing today is to share my JOY about how wonderful life can be after weightloss surgery but MOSTLY to share the trouble Iowan's are facing with the actions the Govenor has taken against weightloss surgery.  I am asking everyone to take action.  Call your legislator and make your opinions heard.  Write your congressmen and let them know how you feel, tell them your stories.  The govenor can only win if we remain silent.

As of March 3rd I have lost 61 pounds.  I haven't been very good at exercising.  No excuse except for the cold weather.  No more excuses

I had surgery on 10-18-06  as of 10-30-06 I've lost 16 lbs. YEA
