I want my life back

Oct 22, 2009

I have been having issues with hypoglycemia since my hystorectomy.
I have been to the nutritionist, the endocronologist, and neither of them beleived me when I gave them my menu of what I eat in a day... insisting that I must be eating more carbs than I let on.... because I wouldn't be hypoglycemic of I was "behaving myself".

My GP seeing my frustration, put me on insulin sensitising medication which helps for a while.... Just when it seems like things are under control I attempt an exercise regimen and I am back to square one.

As a result my weight is up over 200 lbs again.
I wear an 18-20 and I *hate* being so fatigued all the time. It is nothing for me to sleep 10-12 hours in a night.... even at 300lbs I had more energy and was more active.

I have been having serious issues with memory loss and  constipation so severe that has only been aided by massive amounts of prescription medications. A colonoscopy was negative for any issues. My lab tests show I am on the lowest end of normal in my vitamin D level.   All of my other labs are great.  I have tested negative for a thyroid condition or autoimmune disease.

My Dr has scheduled me for an MRI next week.

I have a follow-up appointment with my surgeon next month. I am hoping that he has some idea of what could be happening to me, if my GP and I can't figure it out.  The question now, are my problems GBS related, or this was a problem I had previously and the surgery just agrivated everything?

Well, reconstructive surgery will have to wait a few more years. I could be missing two months of work this year..... I just found out that in March I will be having a hysterectomy. I have previously had 4 D&Cs and I know I suffer from fibroids, PCOS, endometriosis and adenmyosis. I have been having a ton of lower abdominal pain and on exam there was definately some abnormalities. I will be losing my uterus and at least one ovary and they will try to do it all laproscopically.... but that may change once they get in there. I hope the changes in hormones helps my moods, I have been really depressed lately.

The Surgeon's office called this afternoon and they want to move my surgery date. TO NOVEMBER 15TH! I am gonna go for it! Had to get pre-op bloodwork and EKG after work today, have a dr visit and appointment with the anestesiologist on Wednesday. It just keeps getting better!

11/17/2005:
I am home from the hospital. Everything went well. My back hurts from laying around for the last 2 days, and I am gassy but other than that I am not feeling too bad. I'll add more in a few days.

I am now 6 days post-op and I can't beleive how good I feel. I am a little tired from not sleeping well at night. I have discomfort at bed time.....there is a pulling sensation in my upper right abdomen when I lay on my side in bed.... so I only need the pain meds before bed and when I 1st get up in the morning. I will finally be allowed to leave the house on Thanksgiving, Thursday (they have me on lovenox injections twice a day to prevent clotting, which I finish tomorrow, so they don't want me to be at risk for an accident) I am avoiding the scale until 2 weeks post-op. I am on pureed foods and I have NOT gotten sick or nauseous on anything I have eaten. Having a little problem getting all the water in on top of everything else, but the only time I feel dehydrated is when I wake up in the mornings.
I am so excited!

Two week post-op appointment today, I am down 12 lbs since surgery. I am now on the stage 3 (blended foods) diet. My incisions look good, and I am back to work :-) I go back at 6 weeks, I will check in then.

Went on a bus trip to NYC with my sister. I spent the entire day walking. I had a little trouble keeping up at times, especially through central park and all of the icy paths, but I got a TON of exercise. Finding food was a trip, I had packed snacks thinking I would be able to find skim milk in my travels. (Not as easy as one would think) I had a great time and will sleep very well for the next few days.

Six weeks post op and I am down a total of 21 lbs. Not as good as I would like, but I wasn't eating on the schedule the nutritionist had for me and I didn't work out for a week because of some unexpected abdominal pain at a month post-op. No regrets.

September 26, 2005:
To qualify for the surgery I was required to follow a 3 month Dr supervised weight loss where I had to lose 30 lbs. I was required to quit smoking (I was only up to 1-2 packs per week so that was easy.) I had to have a battery of tests including a breathing analysis, sleep study, blood tests, and a psychiatric evaluation. Today was the final day of my weight loss and everything went well. I found out I am 5 ft 6 (not 5 ft 7) and my GP set my goal weight at 150 lbs. I am now waiting to hear from my insurance company I will be given a surgery date as soon as I am granted approval.

October 18, 2005:
I'm finally approved! My surgery date is MUCH later than originally thought, but
December 13, 2005 is my big day! I am so psyched!
