August Already 8/2007

Aug 09, 2007

Well, here it is August.  Summer is almost over, and my children will be heading back to school in little over two weeks.  Well it has been over 1 month since I posted.  I am now down 75lbs and weight 176.5 lbs this morning.  I am still getting compliments on how I look.  I love that!  I know that will end in the future.

I am still walking about 2-4 miles, but I have added jogging to the routine.  On Tuesday evening I jogged half of it which was close to 1 mile.  I haven't done that since high school.  I am really pleased that I don't have much of a loose skin issue and I think the exercise really helps that.  However, I have lost a ton of hair.  Fortunately I had a thick head of hair, so it isn't noticeable.  I really feel for the people who had thin hair prior to surgery.

My marriage is getting much better.  I am sleeping with my hubby and we are enjoying each other more.  That has been a real plus.  I know that doesn't happen to everyone, but my husband has been really supportive throughout this whole thing.  It's kind of like he has a new wife.  So that's the plus for him.

I definitely am enjoying summer more this year with having 75 lbs off.  I don't feel so self-conscious about how I look in shorts or have the thigh rub with no nylons.

Well gotta go, but thought I would put in an update so I don't forget all of this in a couple years.

July Already!! 7/1/07

Jul 01, 2007

Well, just a quick blogg to update.  Because in a few years I won't remember this stuff.  Weight loss has slowed significantly.  I am now 186 lbs and that is a total loss of 65 lbs.  I wish it would come off a little faster, but I shouldn't be too hard on my self.  I am fitting into some size 16s and regular large shirts.  Yesterday I shopped in the regular ladies dept at Kohl's, that was so nice.  I keep hitting the clearence racks, as I don't want to buy too much in this size.  I hope to go lower.

AS for my workouts I am walking a solid 3-4 miles per day.  I am trying to add some jogging in short distances, as I feel like my workout is not strenous enough.  The Medical physician suggested last month that I sent targets (landmarks) and run to them.  I try to do that.  I am wearing sports bras, as my old bras are way too big.  One friend at work keeps nagging me about new bras, I just I will have to break down and buy some new ones.  Shopping is more pleasurable and I like to look for the bargains.

I recently measured the usual places, here are the stats

Neck = 15.5"
Breast = 40.25"
Waist = 36.5"
Wrist = 6.75"
Hips = 46.5"
Thighs = 25.5"
Calves = 18"
Arm = 14"

I haven't had a chance to compare them, but I sure hope I am loosing inces.

Well that is it for now.  Be back soon.

6/10/07 Can't believe it is June

Jun 10, 2007

Well, here it is June and I haven't posted since April.  I thought I had posted in May, but I didn't see anything.  Well I am about 3 1/2 months postop and my total weight loss is 62 lbs.  I hear other people with much higher loss and thought that I was not doing was much as I should have.  I went for my 3 month check-up and the medical physician told me that due to my starting weight 251, I am ahead of the game by 15 lbs.  He told me that I lost 15 lbs more than he was expecting.  This made me happy to say the least.  I am not running any races with anyone.  I just want to make steady sure progress.  My current weight is 189 and I haven't weighted that in years.  I am walking about 2-4 miles per day and really trying to eat appropriately.  Today we went to a seafood buffet.  They honored my WLS card and charged me for a child's meal.  I had three shrimp, three crab legs, very small amount of crab soup and that was it.  No desseart, I did really well, and the server we had was very kind.  Some of them can act strange.  Last week we went to Red Lobster, and I ordered an appetizer as my meal.  The server got kind of smart with me, stating I thought you didn't want an appetizer.  I had to explain that was want I wanted for my meal.  She rolled her eyes and placed the order.  I didn't care, I was the customer.  Anyway, that broiled appetizer made three meals for me.  Boy am I a cheap date.  My stock pile of smaller clothes are dwindling.  Looks like I will need to get some shorts.  I thought I had some, but they are all too big.  And, then we went swimming.  Well I put on last year's bathing suit thinking it would be close to fitting, ya know, they are form fitting.  Not a chance.  I had gapping spots under my arms.  So I need one of those too.  These are nice problems to have.

I need to post a new picture, which I will try to do soon.  My daughter took a picture of us together, I will try to get it down loaded and on ASAP.  Oh well, that is it for now.  I am the happiest I have been in a long time and can finally sleep with my husband (I am no longer snoring).  That has been a real blessing.  I hope for more to come.  Jen

03/17/07 WooHoo, my rings fit

Mar 17, 2007

Happy St. Patrick's day!!  Today I am 31 lbs lighter and tried my wedding band and anniversary band on.  They fit, I have not had them on in over 1 1/2 yrs.  I am so happy.  I got on the scales and I weight 220.  I think it might be less as my monthly friend is due and I have been constipated.  Anyway, all is going pretty good.  I did get some cheese stuck on Tuesday evening.  I spent Wednesday kind of miserable, but it moved through sometime Wednesday night.  I think I ate the cheese too fast.  I need to slow down with how fast I eat.  I have always been a fast eater.  This will make me slow down.  Well that's all for now.  Have a great day!

10 day postop

Mar 02, 2007

3/3/07  Well, I am 10 days postop and have lost 11 pounds since my surgery date.  I lost 11 lbs prior to surgery, so my total is 22 lbs at 229 (started at 251).  That's a pretty good start.  I saw Dr Currie yesterday and he was pleased with my progress.  He gave me the green flag to start back at the gym, but to back off on my time on the treadmill.  He told me to cut my time in half and gradually increase it.  So far this has really gone well for me.

Last eveing we went out to eat.  I had 1/3 of a cup of Italian Wedding soup (I ate mainly the broth) and a few bites of cottage cheese.  It filled my pouch and I was done.  The server asked if I was waiting on my meal and I politely stated no (lol).  Wow, that was kind of weird, but it allowed my family a meal away from home, which they so enjoy.  I can't let the surgery impact their lives negatively.  I am looking forward to the seafood I will be able to eat as I move towards a regular diet.  I love scallops and shrimp.  One of the men in our support group stated that the imitation crab meat is really good too.

I am still having some headaches and Dr. Currie felt it could still be caffeine withdrawal.  He ordered lab work to make sure my blood sugar is stable.  I had problems with hypoglycemia in the past.  I hope to go to the gym tomorrow, and for today I am going to walk outside to see how it goes.  I am hoping for the best.

Had RNY Wednesday

Feb 25, 2007

Hi all,
I had my surgery on Feb 21st and I am doing well.  I just wanted to say thankyou for everyone who wished me well before the surgery.  I was trying to respond to everyone, but I don't have all the kinks on this website worked out.

I was discharged yesterday and have had a full 24 hours on clear liquids.  It is going well, but I am concerned that I am not getting enough fluids in.  I am trying to drink 4 oz every 2 hours or 1 ounce every 30 minutes as directed.  I like the fruit punch protein drink from The Weight Loss Center, but I gotta say the mango/peach and orange are the pits.  I have got to get them down for the protein.

My surgery went well with minimal pain, but I had a migraine type headache for three days.  I don't know if it was the anesthesia or my lack of caffeine.  I love coffee and had trouble giving it up until the very end.  My twin sister made me this comfy polar fleece blanket that I have used since Thursday, I love it and it is keeping me warm.  Thanks Jackie.  I think she should have one when it is her turn to go through the surgery.  My biggest hurdle is watching my family eat chips and pretzels.  I am working through it though and will over come the cravings, i hope!!

Wednesday's the Big Day

Feb 17, 2007

Well, I haven't posted in a long while, in fact since I signed up.  I have completed all the preop testing and managed to loose 11 lbs preop.  I am scheduled for surgery this Wednesday 2/21/07.  I have been extremely nervous in the last two weeks, to the point of not sleeping well.  I would love to weight 150 lbs and I figure this is the only way I will see 150.  After the holidays I joined the local YMCA and have been walking about 5 times per week 45-50 minutes per day.  It seems to be more motivating than walking at home.  I see everyone else working out and it just makes me want to work harder too.  However, I tease that I am the fattest female in the gym.  But I just don't care, til everyone sees me 6 months down the road they will wonder what happened.  After I have lost about 50 lbs I would like to to the resistence training and lifting just for toning.  I have a lot of goals, and expect to see them through.  My husband walks right along side of me and is very supportive.  But I know he is scared of this week.  I expect pain, but I think I can manage it.  Wishe me luck as I venture into this new world.
