Now the hard work begins

Nov 22, 2008

Surgery went off without a hitch on the 18th. I felt terrible and was in such pain afterwards, and I am honestly not a wimp. They gave me a PCA pain pump, which I could push whenever I felt I needed pain meds. That seemed to help. I was up and moving soon, I walked and got up to the bathroom with no assistance. The next day I had the gastrograffin x-ray, and I rue the day I ever have to drink that stuff again. IT WAS TERRIBLE!!! After that came back with no leaks they let me have broth and juice and popsicles. I felt fuller sooner and could only take in a few sips at a time. I went home at like 4:30 the 19th. The ride was a little rough with every bump felt in my tighter stomach, but I made it. I had some good phenergan induced sleep that night.
The next morning I woke up, and had some diarrhea and bad gas. A quick look in the toilet told me that it was a bloody diarrhea. I quickly called Dr. Rutledge trying to contain my nerves. He was very prompt in calling me back and said out of like 600 patients he had only 5-6 that had this afterwards (of course leave it to me to be one of those). He felt that it was nothing to be overly concerned with, but that I should go back to the hospital and be admitted for serial labs and observation. They called him once I got to the ED, and he admitted me to the hospital. I had labs, which were all stable, thankfully. Dr. Rutledge was very attententative. He called my hospital room, then came in after work to check on me. I  also saw him first thing the next morning. As a nurse, I was very satisfied that this was a doctor who truly cared about his patients. So I finally got to go home the next morning, and have made it home two whole days!! I did miss a very important interview that could not be rescheduled, but o'well I guess it wasn't meant to be.

Today I get to eat Full liquids, I am so tired of broth and jello.

I work nightshift, woke up today and realized that Dr. Rutledge's office called me. So I called them, and the person I needed to talk  to was busy, so they would have to call me back. The wheels in my little brain got to spinning, I was worried and excited in the same breath.  With much thought, I called the insurance co who after holding for 15 friggin minutes told me I WAS APPROVED!!! She uttered the sweet words I had been waiting to hear for so long. Surgery will be in November either the 4th, the 11th or the 12th. I told Judy at the office I could be there tommorrow :o) and I would be. I am anxious to get this done, however I have waited this long may as well wait a little longer.

Things should be cookin at the insurance company

So last week I went for my psych eval, the counselor said it would be done friday or today. So hopefully all the information has been sent to the insurance company. I will call tommorrow, I have bugged the crap out of the surgeons office y calling a million times. I am sure they are used to it, but this is really important to me. They told me that the insurance company has been taking a while to approve claims, like 30 days. I can't wait 30 days!!!!! I guess I will have to though.  Anyways I will keep things updated.
Pray for me!

Gettiing the ball rolling!

Aug 20, 2008

Okay, so in September I will be eligble for insurance coverage for the RNY, which I have decided on. I have done a whole year in the weight management center, and love all those folks . They are great and have helped me tremendously, I just think I need a little more boost since I have been relatively unsuccessful. I would definently recommend them to everyone. I met with Dr. Rutledge and really liked him, a lot of nurses I know recommended him and you know if a nurse recommends a doctor, he must be good. So now I am just waiting to get the ball rolling. I hope to have surgery in early october but only time will tell. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
 Jen
