My story with my weight struggles start back in the early 90's when I was in the Army.  I was discharged for being overweight.  over the years I saw my weight peak at 314 pounds.  At one point my wife and I went on a Doctor monitored/managed diet (HMR) and I lost an incredible 123 pounds in 5 months!  I was very proud of both of our successes.  But a move from Kanses to St. Louis caused us to end the program early - before we reached our individual goals.  We thought we could continue on our own and still be successful.  We were wrong.  Over the last year or so since our move, I've gained back about 65 pounds.  Moderate exercise, portion control, calorie counting, reading labes have all been a part of our routine.  But we still gain the weight back.  I dont know if it's politally correct or not to say I'm the lucky one to have a BMI high enough to qualify for the Lap Band surgery and have it covered by our insurance.  But I know my wife wishes she qualified too.

We discussed this with our doctor and I've started the consultations and scheduled the preliminary tests.  I hope to have my surgery in the next few months.  I truly feel that with this advantage I can truly acheive sustained success.
