I decided to have RNY surgery when a friend of mine at work had it done. He encouraged me and another friend to go to a meeting and decide for ourselves. Another friend gave me the name of Dr. Melkonian (my surgeon). I did not think that my insurance would cover it or that I would even be a good candidate. I was surprised and relieved to find out that I could have the surgery. I was approved and had the surgery about 4 weeks later. It was the best decision I have ever made.
I had type 2 diabetes, leg swelling, major heatburn (the doctors called it GERD), and migranes. I was on all kinds of medicine. I am now free of all of that and feeling fine! The wait was terrible. I had to wait for 4 weeks before I got the approval from my insurance. But it was worth it to be where I am now and where I will be this time next year! Wow!
