Erik Throop

"I've dealt with alot of doctors with my elderly parents. At times it seems I have probably met every type of A-personality, ego maniac out there in the medical field. Dr. Throop made me feel that he knew what he was doing right off the bat. He is full of confidence without the arrogance you find in some doctors. He explained things to me in terms that I could understand and never one time did I feel inferior or self conscience in his presence. He was very friendly and just made me feel good about my decision. I over heard him on the phone one day talking about an intern and I knew right then that Dr. Throop strives for excellence in himself and his staff, but he is a real person... if that makes sense.rnAt first the staff at St. Mary's Bariatric seemed aloof and not very friendly, I really hated going in to the office cause I felt they just didn't care and were they to do a job and didn't really enjoy it. The office staff and how they treat you is very important to me and alot of times even if the doctor is great I'll really think hard about sticking with them if the staff sucks. But the more I saw of them the friendlier they got. Now I know when I call the office they know who I am and I'm not just a file. They all know their stuff.... and really seem to care about you personally and encourage you in your journey. They have an answer for everything and load you up with all the information you could possibly need to make an informed decision and all the information you need to make the changes necessary to be a success. I would highly recommend the staff and the clinic to my family and friends!! "

St. Mary's Medical Center

"I was told that St. Mary's treated bariatric patients like queens and kings with alot of understanding and kindness. I didn't find that to me true and was very disappointed. My first night after surgery My IV was going off and the morphine drip had run out. It took forever for someone to come check on it, then the first person that did just happened to be walking by and wasn't even my nurse. I called the desk to get help and it took over 15 minutes for someone to respond to my pushing the button. Once they finally did come in (this was probably 2 hours into the shift and I was in a lot of pain by then) things were better and I really can't complain much after that. There was one person that was my tech... she made me feel very uncomfortable would just stand there and stare at me.... I finally had to confront her and then she left me alone. I believe while I was there they were short on staff which I'm finding a lot with this hospital. The staff they do have is over worked and usually working way too many hours. They don't have time to give you the care you pay for and it's very frustrating. Like I said, I was very disappointed in the treatment I received from the staff, though most were nice, they just didn't have the time."
