In 2002 I was diagnosed with a very very large liver (NASH) and my amazing surgeon recommended a lap band.  I had one put in in December.  I had great weight loss, getting down to 146, but in November 2003 there was a prolapse, and my band had to be changed out.  This second surgery went just fine, and I maintained a perfect weight for about 6 years and loved my band.  Then in 2009 I began having problems keeping food down, and they ended up completely unfilling my band.  I tried eating very gently for a year, until the band had to be removed in 2010 because my body just would not tolerate the band any longer.  At the time I didn't want to revise, and was seeing a different surgeon, as I had moved to a different part of the state.  In one year I gained so much weight that my liver enzymes are out of control again, and my BMI is higher than when I got my band 10 years ago.  I just had a consult with my original surgeon today, he is HIGHLY recommending a revisional surgery now to the RNY, and I am all for it!  It will be a challenge due to the dense scar tissue I have from having 2 lap bands put in and taken out, and the fact that my liver is very very large again.  The surgeon's office will handle the insurance, and as soon as it is approved (another challenge...) I will go on a 4 week 0 carb diet to shrink the liver, then I will have the laproscopic RNY.
