2 pounds to my Goal weight

Jul 21, 2011

It was a year ago this week that I started this weight loss journey.  I can't believe how much my life has changed in a year.  My relationship with food has completely changed.  I only eat now because I am hungry.  I basically have lost all the weight I need to lose.  The last 2 pounds I had in my mind as my goal weight are not that important.  I know I look good and I am comfortable in my own skin.

7 Months Post Op

May 07, 2011

I haven't posted in a while.  I went to the doctor at 6.5 have months post op and they were very happy with my progress.  They wanted me to go to the support group meetings.  I haven't been yet because the hospital isn't near my house.  However, now I work near the hospital so now I think I will go.

Anyway both the nurse and the doctor told me I didn't need to lose more weight at my check-up but I still was 17 pounds from goal weight and 5 lbs above normal BMI.   As of today, my BMI is 24.5, which is in normal BMI range for my height so I am very excited.  I haven't been that since before my son was born 15 years ago.   I am going to continue to work on losing the last 12 pounds just to have the cushion.

I measured myself today and I have met all my body measurement goals though...I just need to start toning.  :)

25 Pounds to Go to Goal Weight!

Mar 07, 2011

As of today, I have 25 pounds to go.  I can't believe it.  The last couple of months it has been a lot slower but that is ok.  I know it was going to go slower as I reach my goal weight.  I am just excited that I am finally down to the last 25 pounds.  It seems very doable.  I actually have a mini-goal right now of reaching 155.  That is where I can say I am officially "Normal" weight according to BMI calculations.  I don't care when I reach either of those goals, I will be just excited when I do.

I am enjoying be able to cross my legs comfortably for the first time in over 10 years and sitting in chairs without feeling I am spilling over to my neighbor's.  I like staying in my "own space."

Only 37 lbs to go!

Jan 17, 2011

Its been 3.5 months since my surgery and I am very excited that I about my success.  Two weeks ago I went to my 3 month check up and my doctor was happy about my success too.  He wants me to increase my protein intake because which I was concern about also.  So,  I am trying to remember to have a shake because I am not hungry enough for snacks.

I went shopping with my mom and daughter.   It was fun.  I am finally in missy sizes.  Size 12 bottoms and size medium to large tops fit me perfectly.  I haven't been those sizes in years.  It is nice walking in a store and not thinking nothing is going to fit me.

I was excited to see my BMI calculated as overweight instead of obese.  That was a huge milestone for me.   One more step to being healthier.

Finally Hit the 100's again

Nov 18, 2010

As of today I am 198.  I haven't seen 1 in front of my weight since 2002 and we moved to CA.  I had worked really hard to lose weight after my daughter was born in 1999 and I was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism and I was finally able to get down to 175.  Then we moved from Texas to CA.  I started working from telecommuting and over the next 8 years weight came back on and them some.   So today is a blessed day.   I wanted to see the 100's before Thanksgiving just so that I could enter the holiday season this year feeling good.

Things over all since my surgery on September 30th are going well.  I have had some vomiting due to not liking broccoli stalks and not chewing enough or slowly enough but I hope it will pass.

One Week Check-in

Oct 07, 2010

This week has been an interesting week.  I am glad it was only one week of clear liquids.  I don't think I could of handled any more days of broth, tea, water, jello, and protein drinks only.  I know my blood sugar couldn't handle it much longer.  Yesterday, I felt terrible.  I was light-headed all day.  At point, I felt like I was going to faint.  The only thing I did yesterday was work on laundry and my husband did all the lifting.  So, it wasn't exactly "over doing it".

The only other thing I hate is taking my pills crushed.  They are making me gag.  I haven't found a mixture that won't make me gag yet.  I can't wait to see my PCP on the 21st to see if I can take these pills in other form.  It's three of them and they are horrible.

I am excited about today and the coming week.  I can start eating yogurt and pureed soups.  Hopefully, those additional calories will help keep my blood sugar up enough so I won't feel as light-headed and will have more energy to walk.

I did lose additional 5 pounds since the surgery, so that is a positive sacrifice to all this light-headiness.

Home Today - 2nd Day Post Op

Oct 02, 2010

My husband and daughter came around 9 this morning to the hospital to take me home.   I was discharged around 10:30.  After a stop at CVS to pick up my pain medicine we were home and my son was awake to greet me.  My dogs were so excited also.  I was ready for another round of pain medicine and go to sleep.  Instead,  I  was a good girl I drank 5 oz of Pure Protein (actually sipped) before I took a nap.

I slept for 3 hours but I needed it. Since then I have gone for two brief walks, had the half of the Pure Protein can, broth, and water.   The hardest part of the day today is keeping the stomach pain at bay.  Going for a walk helped a lot. I felt much better after I did.

1 Day Post-OP

Oct 01, 2010

Yesterday went pretty well.  Not only did I have the bypass but they fixed a hernia that I didn't know about.   With it fixed it should help with my GERD symptoms.   I only instance of nausea when I first woke up from surgery.  The pain medicine is Dilaudid and it has been working well.  I had nothing by mouth all day yesterday.  The only thing I could do was wet my mouth a lips with water.  At least it was it worked.        My nurses have been great.   They have been very supportive and helpful.  I walked three times yesterday.   I have burped and hiccuped (not so pleasant) but no passing of gas yet.

Today I started on my 1 oz of water every hour.  So far I have had two ounces.   No side-effects.  So hopefully,  I can continue to progress.   The goal for today is to keep pain at the minimum, progress to clear liquids, and pass gas.

So far I am on schedule to go home tomorrow.

PS.  Thanks to my husband for bringing me my laptop so I can stay connected.
