Support groups

Sep 06, 2009

I was pretty discouraged last week to discover that all of the WLS support groups in my area were closed.  That is, they are only open to those who have had surgery with the particular surgeon who was offering the group.  On the one hand, I can certainly understand that.  But it just seems as though one of them could make an exception for one person.  I can't believe there are many others in my county who have recently had WLS out of the area.  The only bariatric surgery that is currently offered where I live is lap-band.  The surgeon who used to perform RNY here did not have a very good track record; needless to say, he is no longer in practice.

So it was very disheartening to be told "sorry, we can't help you."  But the light at the end of the tunnel was that I found a very small group that was just established at the beginning of last month.  Our first meeting is this Thursday, and I am really looking forward to it.  Mostly, I want to see this group grow and become as successful as (or even moreso than) the surgeon-sponsored support groups.

Anyway, I guess that's all I had to say.  By the way, I am currently multitasking:  I'm writing this blog and procrastinating cleaning out my fridge and going to the grocery store.  But now duty calls (plus, I'm hungry!)
Ciao!
