14 Years Since Gastric Bypass!

May 22, 2018

April 16, 2004 was a new beginning. I'm now 14 years post surgery and still down 100+ lbs and diabetes free. My husband and I celebrated our 32nd wedding anniversary this year. We now have a 2 1/2 year old granddaughter and people think she's our daughter and my husband has a much younger wife! Very humorous the first couple of times. We're expecting a grandson in September. I'm still very happy I had this surgery and am able to enjoy life so much more. It seems like no one even remembers how I looked before surgery and when I show people a picture of me before my weight loss, they still don't think it's really me in the picture.

I lost my sister and only remaining sibling this past December. Yes, diabetes along with a slew of other diseases took another victim.

8 Years Post Surgery

Apr 18, 2012

Monday, April 16, 2012, was my 8 year anniversary for my gastric bypass surgery. I'm still down over 100 pounds and still diabetes free. Thank goodness. Sometimes my cholesterol is a little tiny bit too high but I think it's the Target snack bar POPCORN. Dr. Warnock told me not to eat popcorn but it smells so good and tastes even better!

My husband and I celebrated 26 years of marriage this past February and are still going strong. Our oldest son moved out to live with his girlfriend and is finishing his second year at the local community college. Our youngest son is now a junior in high school so we have him with us for another couple of years.

People act very funny in a strange way sometimes in that when I tell them I had gastric bypass surgery in 2004, they look me up and down and ask why? Apparently, it's very hard for them to picture me as morbidly obese even when I show them the before pictures. They tell me it's not me. People are very judgmental.

It's been more than 6 years since my gastric bypass and I'm keeping 100+ pounds off. They're lost and I don't want to find them! Life is good!

5 Year Anniversary

Aug 06, 2009

My 5 year anniversary was this past April. I am now between 150-152 and am still loving life.  My knees get a little stiff when I kneel for two long and I can image how bad it would be if I didn't lose 100+ lbs.  I'm still a size 8.  My thighs are the only thing bothering me at this point.  The older I get, the more skin there is hanging.  I still would have the surgery again, though.  So far, diabetest has not developed and I am truly thankful for that.  Anyone thinking about the surgery does need to think the whole proces through because gastric bypass is a life changing event.

THREE YEARS POST OP!!

Apr 17, 2007

I forgot my three year anniversary yesterday.  I went into the bank to cash a check and the teller asked for ID and said there was no way that that was me!  I told her I had surgery, she asked what kind and when and I realized yesterday was my THREE year anniversary!  I feel good and my husband tells me I look good, too.  I gave the teller my card and told her to call me if she wants support.  She said she's been fighting with her insurance company for two years.
