Start Protein Shake Doet on TUESDAY!

Jul 29, 2011

Time is flying by sooooo fast! Seriously, once you get approved for surgery everything moves quickly. I'm also in school for my BSN and working full time on the weekends. I only have 8 more days of work before I am off for the surgery. Anyways, I am starting my pre-op diet on August 2, consisting of 2 protein shakes and one small meal of protein and veggies. Any advice or tips on starting this diet? I'm also a regular gym-goer and work out 3-4 times a week, usually in the form of Spinning, Zumba, or High Intensity Intervals on the Elliptical. I also do weight training twice a week. Any tips for keeping my energy up? I already get lightheaded at times and I'm a little scared of passing out once I start this diet. I've already prepped myself by eating less and getting my protein in first, followed by veggies and then fruit, then whole grains. I need advice from a pro. :)

I am BACK!

Jul 13, 2011

After a hiatus with my frustrations, I am BACK! Update on me: I have been eating healthier and exercising. I have lost allllmost 50lbs on my own. I am approved for RNY surgery on 8/16. I had my EGD today and everything looked great! I am starting a more strict diet tomorrow, trying to train myself for post-op eating.....i.e. quitting diet soda and cutting carbs. Anyways, that's about it for now....Just counting down the days!!!!!

ARG!!!

Feb 25, 2011

My Bariatric Center was misinformed, therefore hindered my success at getting my surgery date. I have repeatedly been told that as an employee, I do not have to have a 6 month diet. I've been told this for 6 months; ALL the time they could have been documenting me attempting weight loss. Now I'm back at square 1 and very frustrated. I must start ALL over again with my journey, and I am....well, PISSED! I feel like I have been working hard for nothing. I have done all this stuff for almost 2 months, to be denied a surgery for something that was an error on my clinic's end. Moral of the story -- Look into your own insurance. Do not trust your clinic to do it for you.

Disgruntled!!!

Feb 22, 2011

Today, I found out that Insurance DENIED my surgery. The reason? No 6 month diet. I am the ONLY employee of the company that has been denied for that reason. Let me rewind: I am employed by the hospital that my surgery will take place and the hospital the Bariatric Center is in. Their stipulation for surgery: No 6 month diet, but must pay a 3500 dollar copay, attend the seminar and an enducation class, do all your visits with the dietician, surgeon, and psych eval. I am so upset by this. The Bariatric Center is going to bat for me and is fighting this tooth and nail, but I'm just dumbstruck. I already took my time off from work and everything. I just tend to have bad luck and it seems weird crap happens to me. I'm trying to be positive, but it's messing with me so bad. I've made my diet modifications for my sugery, and I think "What if I started doing all this for nothing?" I just kind of want to cry right now.

Psych Eval Today!!!

Feb 16, 2011

I had my last piece of the puzzle done today before I can get my surgery date -- My Psych Eval. Kind of nerveracking to divylge your innermost thoughs and personal strories to someone you just met, but I think it went well. Hopefully I pass the eval and can get my surgery date. One of the nurses told me that April was free for surgery dates, so tentatively, I picked April 4th. I feel it will give me time to adjust to taking my vitamins and changing my eating habits, which I have started to do. I'm doing a lot better than I thought, and I am down 8 lbs. already from last week. Score! I will have my surgery date set in stone next week. YAY!!!!! I'm really ready for the changes that are going to take place.

Had Dietician and Surgeon consult today

Feb 11, 2011

Well, as the title says, I have met with my surgeon and dietitcian today. Both tell me that they think I will do extremely well, and I'm sooo excited! It was funny hearing that I'm a minority in this surgery -- the surgeon says not many childbearing-age women go in for this surgery. Dr. Parker is extremely nice, and I feel comfortable with her. The dietician was great as well and gave me lots of great info. I'm going to try my "healthy changes" on Monday and starting my workout regimen. I have the blueprint for my 2 week post-op diet as well....I know it will be ROUGH, but I can do anything for 2 weeks. I will get my surgery scheduled week after next, since my psych eval got pushed back to next Wednesday, but I was tole April is pretty much open to any day, so I'll probably do it April 4th. I don't get my PTO renewed until that month, so it naturally seems to be a better choice, in case I need to take more than 3 weeks off. I don't have much PTO to work with for the time being. I"m very excited and very ready to get  this underway. I'm ready to be active -- I want to be able to bike, swim, run....Do it all without being in constant pain and being so short of breath because of my weight.

WOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOO!

First Post

Jan 20, 2011

Hey everyone! I am new to OH. Let me tell you some about my journey thus far. Same story -- Since I was a kid, I've been overweight. However, I took control when I was 17 and Lost about 90lbs. with strict calorie counting and exercise. By the time I was 21, all the weight was gained back and then some after yo-yo dieting. Now at 26, it feels like anything I do, I fail with weight loss. I can lose the weight, but it never stays off. I have turned to gastric bypass to break this vicious cycle of yo-yo diets and extreme weight gain. My health has also suffered -I have had HTN for 3 years, I have Polycycstic Ovarian Syndrome, Subclinical hypothyroidism, and fatty liver. I never imagined that I would be in such poor health at a young age, but I plan to take control. I have filed all the paperwork and saved my "copay" (a hefty 3500 dollar one, but worth it) with the Bariatric Center. I go to the seminar 1/25/10. I was told things could happen as early as Feb 28th. All scary, but exciting. I'm ready to get my life back!!!! Any tips or help throughout my journey - Pre and Post-op, please share!!! Thanks!
