2 weeks post-op

Aug 20, 2009

I'm totally recovered from the surgery.  I progressed to full liquids earlier this week.  I met with the Dietitian for my guidelines.  She greatly impressed PROTEIN PROTEIN.  She recommends 20 gr/day & to progress weekly by 10 grams doing this under I reached 70-75 grams/day or more.  Of course, be cautious of fat & sugar but don't count calories or carb's.  Make wise chooses but get that protein in by all means.  I did have symptoms similar to low blood sugar attacks 3 days in a row.  I also was moving about a lot & was prolly burning up some calories.  I became very weak, sweaty, nauseated.  My daughter rushed me a protein drink & I tried to sip a bit @ a time, started to have chills & sipped more and it passed within 15-20 minutes.  It's something to mention, not sure if related to the surgery; but sure does to me.  Especially being I haven't had anything to eat really since July 22ND.  People asked if I'm glad I had it done, I say so far yes; but lets answer that in 6mth & 1yr after all my blood work continues to be in normal range!!  THEN I WILL SHOUT FOR JOY, the weight loss will follow & my health will become so much more improved & be young again!!!! (*wink*)

My 1st struggle post-op is that my new tummy is jiggly & just of the smell of Whey Protein Vanilla is making me nausea.  I start my day with decaf coffee & mix up a small batch of the vanilla protein powder & skim milk (blended well) & add this to each cup (2 or 3) to get in morning protein of 26 grams.  Of course this & the vitamins have me full for the day or the week it seems.  I'm not hungry at all this week & having to push myself  at good bit to sip sip sip on protein protein protein, but with the grace of God I will be successful!  My health is the most importance, if my looks improve wonderful!

My guidelines state to listen to my new stomach, if I am not hungry DO NOT EAT - 'LESS IS BETTER"!   So I will not drink until I barf!!!  Vitamins are essential so that's 1st to me & getting in 26-52 grams of protein a day.  I don't miss chewing at all, its strange.  I don't even go for jello/pudding/popsicle/soup.  I mainly get them protein drinks in!!!

My weight loss is just starting to get moving.  I have a lot of issues with my spinal condition & ambulating is very difficult & impossible after 15 minutes I'd say.  I would like to mention that the last 2 days I had serious spasms in my limbs (serious) even burned my legs with the heating pad trying to reduce the cramping after 48hr with little sleep I finally slept & awoke with blister around my calf's, Not the 1st time!
