I dont think that our stories are all that different. I have struggled with weight, asthma, hypertension, and been pre-diabetic for many years of my adult life. When I got pregnant with my daughter in 2001, I gained 107 lbs with the pregnancy due to pre-eclampsia. After her birth I dropped 30 lbs breast feeding and quickly gained that back plus more.

I stayed in the 250 -280lbs range for many years. I tried EVERY diet known to man; slim fast, metabolife, ephedra, straght starvation. They all worked but in the end I regained what I lost and then some. In March of 2007 I made a decision to move forward with the surgery. I was having asthma attacks regularly, back and knee pain, and was unable to make it up ONE flight of stairs without resting. I was approved within 3 weeks.

...and now here we are. I am almost 2 years post op, rediscovering myself. The journey doesnt end with the weight loss. Please think this thru thoroughly. I hear tons of people say "I want to be skinny." Trust me when I say that is not the purpose of this. This is not cosmetic. It affects SO MANY aspects of your life you wouldnt believe.

I urge anyone considering this to seek professional help, find a support group, find a buddy, do what you need to do NOT to go thru this alone. Keep in mind that this should be done as a last resort. If you do this to "solve" other issues, you will find yourself back where you started pre-op. This takes work. Whoever says this was the easy way out is NUTS.
