"Dr. Otteman is a very kind man. He is methodical and thorough in terms of making sure I understood the entire process. He is on the quiet side, but very supportive and always smiling!
Everyone in his office was enthusiastic and encouraging! What really impressed me was when I checked into the hospital (Poudre Valley, Ft. Collins, CO) the pre-op staff there all spoke very positively and complimentary about him. They were excited for me, saying he does fantastic work! One of the nurses is having the surgery herself in March and another says she keeps begging him to operate on her! High praise indeed!
He does conduct monthly support sessions, however, this will be a challenge for me since its a 300 mile commute. I was asked several times by his staff and himself about whether I'd be attending them and what type of support I'd be having at home, etc.
While his bedside manner is somewhat quiet, I was comfortable with that knowing his reputation for excellence in surgery. I would definitely recommend him to others seeking WLS.
What did I like least? Having to wait 6 months for an intial consultation! However, this reflects how much his expertise is sought and the wait allowed me to come to terms with the risks involved. So it was definitely worth the wait!"
