My Three-Year Anniversary - December 13, 2007
Dec 08, 2007
Wow! I can hardly believe it has been three years (except when I look in the mirror). I really need to update my photo and will try to do that. I have been happy with the results of my life-changing surgery and have no regrets.
What I knew then: Facing surgery was very scary, my family was petrified, but I knew I had to take drastic measures or I was going to get diabetes and die. I hated looking like a freak. My knees were hurting all the time and I knew that double knee replacement was what I was looking forward to in the future.
What I know now: The surgery was tough (after all, it is major surgery), the recuperation varied between miserable and not-too-bad), and the results have been definitely worth it. I've fluctuated between "what have I done to myself?" to WOW THIS IS GREAT!
Getting to know the many kind people of Obesity Help has been one of the highlights of this whole experience. I can't believe how many people were there for me, cheering me on, and sometimes leaning back on me, too. It has been great, a real privilege.
